We are British Guides; Guiding is still very popular in Britain (there are 700,000 current members!!!) and we believe that it offers something very special for girls aged between 10-15. We are a very energetic and enthusiastic unit and have been going since the 1920s.

Before a girl can become a Guide she has to take her Promise which goes like this:-

I promise that I will do my best :

To love my God,

To serve the Queen and my country,

To help other people

and

To keep the Guide Law.

Most units have their own personal enrolment ceremony, we stand in a circle in the traditional way but light tea candles in the shape of the World Badge and have it in the middle. A candle- light ceremony makes it feel very special.

As the girl makes her Promise we all salute (see picture above). Last term we had a lot of new recruits and so after the enrollment we had a big barbecue to celebrate.

If you want to know more about Guiding in general visit our National Guide Homepage which is really looking good, or for details of World Guiding visit the W.A.G.G.G.S. site.
