In patrols- each Patrol has "money" to use to hire equipment to make a commercial for Smarties. Have a selection of priced items e.g. costume bits, car keys, mugs, school books etc. They have to spend their money wisely and perform an advert using the props they have hired. |
Before the Guides arrive hide loads of Smarties around the hall- but make sure that there is only one blue one. This is the "treasure", they can eat what they have found when the game is over. |
Use colourimetry (wet blotting paper) to see what dyes Smarties are made of. |
Make something out of old Smartie tubes. (Pen holder etc- or a model e.g. rocket) |
GRAB THE SMARTIEGroup the Guides into Patrols and chalk a line in front of each one- having them roughly in a circle with a space in the middle. Arm them with about five boxes of fun size Smarties each. They then have to snatch each others' Smarties- they can only carry one at a time with one hand behind their backs so that you can see what is going on! Use a whistle to stop the game to see who has the most. At the end they can divide the spoils. |
SMART SMARTIE RELAYDivide them into groups of eight (or as near as possible) line up in a row with one Guide in front of the other in each group. Put chairs at the other end of the hall for them to run around. Name the Guides that are first Red, second, Orange, third, Yellow and so on with Green, Blue, Pink, Purple and Brown giving some two colours if there are an uneven number. These are of course the colours of Smarties. You then read a little story and when you mention a colour the correct Guides must run around the chairs and try to get back first to score a point for their group. When you say "Smart, Smartie or Smarties" they all have to run! Here is one story you can use:-I woke up this morning and I put on my clothes for school. I put on my Blue skirt with the Purple stripes, my Brown shirt and my Yellow and Green spotted school tie. On my feet I put my Red and Orange socks and my Smartie DMs. In my hair I used a Pink scrunchie. I looked at myself in the mirror- I did look Smart. I had some breakfast, a bowl of Smarties, and went out of my front door which is Orange, Red and Yellow with Green numbers on it. As I walked down the road I noticed my friend- Elizabeth Brown. She had a new Yo-Yo, it was Blue but as you used it it had a Pink light which flashed inside it. "Hi Liz, that's really Smart" I said, "if I give you my last Smartie" (which was Purple) "can I have a go?" "Yes" said Liz, so I gave her my last Smartie and I Yo-Yoed all the way to school. The group with the most points wins! |
Here is a quiz you can try, answers are correct at time of writing! Give each Patrol a tube of Smarties to help them- perhaps the winning team could win a box of mini Smarties. |
