These are some of our favourite games....
Divide the Unit in half, one half are the Rats, the others are Rabbits.
Spread out half way down the length of your meeting place in two lines back to back. (make sure they are back to back or it can last forever!)
Call "Rats" or "Rabbits", if you call "Rats" then the Rats have to run to "home", the wall they are facing, and the Rabbits must try and catch them. If you call "Rabbits" then they must try to reach their wall before the Rats catch them.
If caught then the Rat or Rabbit is out, you continue until there is one person left- they win!
Hint:- It is much more fun if the person calling lingers on the letter "R" because then neither of them knows who has to run or chase!
Warning! This can get violent, make sure that you are supervised by two Guiders for this game or it may result in some real broken legs (and I don't mean on the chairs!)
Divide the Unit in half. Line them up one behind the other at one end of your meeting place.
Give each team some chairs, one less than there are Guides- so if there are seven in a group give them six chairs.
When you say go the group must get all of their team to the other end of the hall without touching the floor! (You can say that it is shark infested or something!)
If they touch the floor they all have to start again, the first team to get everyone to the other wall safely wins.
Try to avoid jumping between chairs or having gaps that are too big, that is when it can get dangerous!
Now try it with two or three less chairs than girls.
For the really adventurous try it with "Casualties" in each team You can have girl with a broken leg, a broken arm or someone who is blindfolded!
Hint:- It is best if an adult stands next to each team as they go across the room to check that they are safe!
Each Girl sits on a chair in a circle with the chair facing outwards.
The Guider names each Guide either "Cod", "Herring", or "Skate" going clockwise round the circle.
The Guider then calls a fish name and the girls whose name is called have to get up and run clockwise round the circle. To make them speed up the Guider shouts "Surf's up" and likewise "Surf's down" to slow them down. To get the Guides to change direction shout "Tide's turning".
Now comes the fun bit! Shout "Shark!" and the Guides have to get to their own chair and sit down as quickly as they can, the last one to sit down is out. They MUST NOT change direction, even if they have just passed their chair (and it's most fun when they all just have!).
The girls who are out can turn their chairs inwards and play it inside so that they are not bored.
After calling each of the fish names try putting two together, or shout "All the fishes in the sea" and they ALL have to run! Chaos!
The game is won by the last Guide left.
Divide the Guides into even teams of sixish.
Line them up one behind the other next to each other.
Put one chair opposite each team at the other end of the hall.
When the Guider shouts "Go" the first Guide has to run round their chair and come back to the first person in their team. She must put her arm between her legs and grab the hand of the Girl next in line so that they are both facing the front but are crouched down like crabs. They then both have to run around the chair and come back to join the next person on.
Eventually the whole line of girls should go round the chair and the first one back wins!
Hint:- This game works best when you have a lot of girls of the same height in each team otherwise you really see the difference in the size of your 10 and 15 year olds!
