================================================================= "Stupid Puma", by Don Caballero From the LP "Don Caballero II", TG143 Tabbed by Brian Kelly (brikelly@hotmail.com), Jan 2001. ================================================================= Key: b = bend p = pull-off h = hammer-on () = slightly picked note / = run up the fretboard \ = run down the fretboard ^ = Palm muting ================================================================= Note that there are some subtle differences between the 2 guitars in the recording, but I'm only going to tab the main riffs since the 2 guitars typically match each other. The actual riffs below aren't too hard, it's really the timings and the crazy arrangements that are tough to get right. Enjoy! ================================================================= For the intro, fade in a vibrato G# on your lower E string. Part A: (5/8) (00:04) e|-----------| b|-----------| g|-----------| d|-----4-----| a|---2---3---| e|-3-------2-| Play this purely by tapping the notes with your fretting hand - don't pick them at all. At 00:24, use your picking hand to bring the distortion right up, and then blast into the next riff. Part B: (11/8, played as 4/8 + 4/8 + 3/8) (00:25) e|------------------------| b|------------------------| g|------------------------| d|------------------------| a|---6-----4------6-----4-| e|-4---4-5---5--4---4-5---| ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Part C: (00:43) e|--------------| b|--------------| g|-6----6-------| d|-6----6----6b-| a|-4----4-------| e|-5----5-------| Part D: (12/8, played as 5/8 + 4/8 + 3/8) (00:57) e|----------------------------| b|----------------------------| g|----------------------------| d|-10-12-9---10--12-9---------| a|---9---------9--------8-p-0-| e|---------12--------12-------| I know that you can play this riff on a lower string (and I think that's how Ian plays it), but I find it easier higher up the fretboard. Part E: (7/8) (01:16) e|---------------| b|-----------0---| g|---------5---5-| d|---------------| a|-----5-7-------| e|-6-5-----------| ^^^^^^^ Part F: (5/8) (01:36) e|-----------------------------| b|-----------------------------| g|-11--11--11--11---5--5--5--5-| d|-11--11--11--11---5--5--5--5-| a|-9---9---9---9----3--3--3--3-| e|-----------------------------| Part A is played by a second guitar under this riff. Part G: (5/8) (02:10) e|-----------| b|-----------| g|-----------| d|-----------| Guitar 1 a|-----2---3-| e|-2-3---3---| | | e|-----------| b|-----------| g|-----4-----| d|-----------| Guitar 2 a|-----2-----| e|-----------| Part H: (5/8) (02:26) e|-------------| b|-------------| g|-------------| d|-----(4)-----| a|---(2)-(3)---| e|-(3)-----(2)-| This riff is identical to part A, except that you need to make some cool harmonic sounds as you tap it. Play it with your fretting hand as before, but lay a finger from your picking hand over the strings. There are two main positions for your finger: if you were playing a standard Les Paul, then the 2 positions are over each pickup. Experiment with it and you will find that you can get really close to the recording. In case you're wondering, I figured this out by shooting right to the stage when I saw the band play this on their last tour :-) Part I: (6/8) (03:18) e|-------------| b|-------------| g|-9-------8---| d|-------------| a|---7h8p0---7-| e|-------------| Play this just with your fretting hand if possible. Part J: (6/8) (03:38) e|----------| b|----------| g|----------| d|----------| a|-2p0-4-b--| e|-----3-b--| Finish the song on a F#5 bar chord.
