Ah, the wonderful institution of rowing. The 5:30 am practises... rainy mornings... cold water... ergs (the most devine torture machines ever invented)... exhaustion... speed... the thrill of winning. Definately an interesting sport.

You'll find a lot of people that row (and actually like it) have web pages like "Rowing is the work of the ruler of Hades". True, the amount of work rowers put into a week is a lot more than the average person would want to do in a month, but it just goes to show you that rowing isn't for weenies. No offence. But it tends to be true that rowers put in more work before 8 am than most people do in their entire day. My team at the University of San Diego meets from 6-8 am Monday through Friday and from 7-10 am Saturdays. We weightlift twice a week from 3-5 pm. We row in the rain, cold, dark and everything else except dense fog (we can't see and would run into things - but we jsut meet at the weight room instead) and snow (it dosn't do that in southern California). Your hands get blistered. Your feet freeze. But it's all worth it. Racing is unlike anything else, especially if you're in the bow (front) of the boat. Even though you're sitting backwards, it's still a thrill to feel the wind at your back and realize just how fast you're really going. Just so you know, i am the weenie on our team. This is actually my first sport, and here i am playing on the intracollegete level... it's nuts, but my teammates and coaches are really supportive and are helping me learn to push myself. |

ENOUGH LECTURE!!! NOW FOR SOME FUN!!!
i have some pictures here of diffrent aspects of a rower's life... You can see what our uniforms look like (horror of horrors! think wrestling except more modest...) Or you can see a picture of me inside my crew travel bag... we only go on weekend trips really, the size of these things is just hilarious... i also have some pics of one of our meets.
