Bricks III will be introduced with a special competition. The goal
of the competition is to find the initial scores for the 'Best Solutions'
pages and to find the "best player of the world".
Duration:
Since the time players spent with Bricks I or Bricks II are very different
it's hard to decide who is playing most efficiently. Therefore the Bricks
III competition is a timed competition. The
competition will take three months which allows
players to work approximately 2 days on each puzzle. Due to the difficulty
of the levels it's impossible to optimize all levels. I guess most players
will even not solve all levels.
Scoring system:
The best three players on each level get bonus
points. The number of bonus points is the difference between the
number of moves the player needed and the number of moves the fourth best
player needed. If someone is more than 50 moves better then the fourth
best player the bonus will be cut to 50 points.
If there are less then four players who solved a particular level the
best player gets 50 bonus points. The bonus points for the others are 50
points minus the difference between the number of moves of the best player
and the player's number of moves.
However, there are also penalty points.
Penalties will be calculated based on the best solution at the end of the
competition. The penalties are shown in the picture below.
Additional rules:
The competition is only for individual players
- teams are not allowed. After the three month competition Bricks III will
have the same rules as Bricks I and II. This means teams may start playing.
During the competition players may not post/exchange
their number of moves on particular levels since this gives players
a hint on which levels they have to work. In addition this would be a bad
idea: other players will 'steal' the bonus points.
Delayed start:
If there are less than 25 players interested in the competition the
start will be delayed until the number of participants is 25.
You can already sign up for the competition (if you have sent in a
score file for Bricks II which qualifies you) using this form:
