Michael (claimed by some to be the first elder of the Brethren Church west of the Allegheny Mts.), Rudolph, Abraham, and Christian migrated to Somerset Cty.
According to Joan Berkey, in "History and Genealogy of Early Pioneers of Lebanon Co. PA" (1990, page 359), Rudolph Meyer was a Mennonite who got "in trouble" with his church for buying a highly-varnished black chaise with a fancy harness. The church felt that this was too gaudy and ordered Rudy to paint the chaise a sober color, "without gloss or to be so scratched as to destroy its beauty." Rudy refused to comply; he was placed under a ban in which case his wife "did not have to call him lord and his children could let his words fall to the ground." Rudy then stopped attending church services.
