James Homer Taylor




Funeral services for James Homer Taylor, 72, were held Tuesday night at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ernest Wright officiating. Burial was Wednesday (today) at Popular Creek Cemetery in Marlow.

Mr. Taylor died at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Knoxville after a long illness.

He was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Anderson County to the late Oscar and Julia Redden Taylor. He married Joann Weaver Taylor on Nov. 1, 1952.

He had worked at the Magnet Mills in Clinton for 20 years when the mill closed. He began working for Union Carbide Nuclear Division, Y-12 Plant, in 1967, and retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems in March of 1985. He worked in the Maintenance Division.

Mr. Taylor, a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church, was a World War II Army veteran. He enjoyed gardening as a hobby.

Two brothers, Arvil and Woodrow Taylor, and a sister, Carrie Taylor preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Joann W. Taylor; a daughter, Cynthia Taylor Smith, both of Clinton; a granddaughter, Lindsay Taylor Smith of Clinton; sisters, Hazel McKinney of Oak Ridge; Mary Harless of Clinton; Stella Lowe of Decatur, GA; brother, Elmer Taylor of Clinton and several nieces and nephews.
