LABOR DAY 2002 - Page 2

SULY WANTED TO DIVE the MkV more than anything else, and he wasted no time getting qualified by tending the dress-out of Ray Butts and making his SuperLite surface supply check-out dive. Bob Rusnak discovered that he and Suly Novak had similar family origins in "the old country" and made a good team. Of course, the anonymous back tender got the breastplate on the front tender instead of the diver (left), which kinda got things off to a strange start. Suly was expressive (below) as Bob snugged the jock.

OUR "BIG COMMUNIST DIVER BOY" made an impressive image in the MkV and was a natural in the water, as well. He'd been frequently on his cell phone throughout the day, and Jeff Foley couldn't resist giving him one last chance to use the phone (above right) before we buttoned up the helmet. Jeff seriously considered putting the cell phone into the hat before we secured the faceplate! After his dive, Suly worked as back tender with Ray Tucker dressing Cliff in Ray Butts' MkV (below left). Mike Imor and Gary McGee were preparing for a scuba venture (below right) as Cliff was about to take his first MkV dive.

TODD STOREY from Boardman, Ohio, dived the SuperLite rig (above left), while David Tidmarsh and Cliff worked as tenders, learning the quirks of the SuperLite 17 and the Amron suit's mating collar. Then it was David's turn in the SuperLite as Ray Tucker supervised and Dave Hill (at right, above right) assisted. After his SuperLite dive, Tidmarsh tried out Bob Rusnak's Scott Hydro-Pak (below left) with his own Gates Pro-Am 1050 drysuit. Dave Hill donned his wetsuit and one of Rusnak's double-hose scuba rigs to buddy with David in the Scotty (below right).
