Elena reached her third Singles Final of the year in her last tournament of the year, the Generali Open, Linz, Austria, to end her 2004 season on a high point, in a year full of ups and downs. She finishes the year with er best Ranking of World Number 15.

Elena beat fellow Russian Nadia Petrova, 6-3 4-6 7-6, to reach the Final, in which she lost to World No 2 Amelie Maueresmo of France 2-6 0-6.

Elena takes New Haven WTA Title!

Elena has won the Pilot Pen, New Haven Championship beating doubles partner Nathalie Dechy of France in 100 degree heat to win the Final 6-2 2-6 7-5.

On her way to the Tier Two title win, she defeated, Mashona Washington of the USA 6-2 6-3 in the Quarter Final, and World No 6 Elena Dementieva of Russia 6-1 6-1 in the Semi-Final.
