Crosswalks.
I've been thinking about crosswalks today; they are pretty nifty things,
I think but, unfortunately, people insist on ignoring them....(sort of like
answering machines).
I don't really have a point to this, but I just thought I would comment
on it.
There is also something about turn signals that intrigues me. I always like
when my fellow drivers use theirs, but it is always kind of a guessing game,
I think.
This is never more apparent than at intersections. I see that car with the
right turn signal going and then, invariably, watch bemusedly as they drive
on past me, never turning right at all, totally oblivious to the fact that
if I didn't know that most people turn their brains off once they get behind
the wheel I would have squished their little Hugo or Honda with my Explorer.
I especially enjoy following someone for 30 miles while their blinker is
blinking cheerfully. Sometimes, if I'm really lucky, the blinking pattern
will even match the beat to whatever tune is playing on the tapedeck.
A thought which occurred to me, as my best friend and I were once making
our perilous way home from a battery buying expedition, angry at that citizen
who was driving 23 mph over the speed limit, swerving in amongst the traffic,
and cutting everyone off was this:
Being angry at this yahoo was quite unfair.
Think about it - These people are the unsung heroes of our society
- and on our roads there are a lot of unsung heroes, by the way - and they
deserve our respect and praise.
So, the next time you are driving by that civic minded citizen- the one who
has managed to cut you off twice by improper lane changing, caused no less
than 3 near fatal traffic accidents, and has shared his/her musical tastes
with you for the previous 90 minutes while stuck in that "going home" traffic-
as said citizen is receiving his ticket, smile, wave, and give thanks,
because there, but for the grace of him, go you.
Parking Lot Psychos
They're out there, you know. The ones who drive through the parking spaces
at 45 miles an hour; apparently under the rationalization that they are not
on a street, avenue, or lane...
...so there they are, swerving, dodging, and running amok
(or amuck; depending on which variation you feel like using; both mean
the same thing and are correct)
...Anyway, running amuck; dodging shopping carts, pedestrians, other cars,
and the poor Salvation Army Santas (out a tad early, but ringing their bells,
none the less).....
Just an observation.
