A Misunderstanding
Once upon a time at work some of my coworkers were talking about contact lenses and the bruising it will eventually do to your eyes (I think..not quite sure about the topic...I wasn't awake yet and hadn't had any coffee...if you know me then you are familiar with my sleepwalking state before my first cup of joe in the morning) -Author's Note: I've learned that the discussion was actually about the TB Tine test and the mark it leaves on your arm...sorry, I just just don't track well in the morning ;-)
...the contact lens conversation actually took place a little later in the day.Anyway, one of the young ladies said "Really? I don't have any bruises."
To which I replied, in my ever smart-ass way, "That's because you aren't beaten often enough" as I headed towards the coffee pot.
Well..I heard this shocked silence spread out behind me.
Then Scott, who had been standing the closest to me when I made my comment clarified, "He said, 'that's because you aren't beaTEN ofTEN enough'."
Everyone else said "oh." in a relieved sort of way, and one, Jill, even chimed in with, "I didn't think he would say something like what we thought he had said."
As I realized what they had heard (say, "That's because you aren't beaten often enough" quickly, if you haven't caught on yet) I could feel my face turn scarlet and they all broke into helpless fits of laughter when they saw how embarrassed I was. :-)
