Written by Michael & LeAnn Jones

Dr. VanMaren:
My husband and I wrote a letter to you before your meeting at BSE.  Your reply was for us to meet with you.  We know this is an option, but feel your responsiblity is more than making your self available individually.  We have been attending the committee meetings and have worked hard to understand why we are having meetings without your guidance.  You have been very invisible to the community and blaming your teachers for not supporting your proposal.  We find the teachers in the Bonner Springs school district to be very caring and educated.  It seems to me that pointing fingers and demanding support only lowers the morale of your staff.  The community is becoming more and more frustrated because you have not provided answers to many questions (refer to your e-mail from Kerry Stumbough).  We don't feel it's our obligation to do your work.  Many of the school board members have been attending the committee meetings and we hope are finding out how their constituents are feeling in regard to changing the calendar.  We think the biggest problem with this whole issue is that you made a decision to investigate, spent a lot of money unnecessarily, and then just thought the patrons of Bonner Springs didn't care enough to want to be a part of the investigation.  We have a lot of parents who are very educated (not just degree educated) and invest large amounts of time in support of the schools.  Many of us attend Bonner activiteis that have nothing to do with our children (i.e. attending sporting and musical events at the high school).  We urge you and the school board to find a way to unite our community.  That may even mean stopping the current course you are taking and rethinking what is best for our community at this time.  Maybe hold meetings with the community and be more visible at the current meetings.

VERY WELL SAID, THANK YOU MICHAEL AND LEANN!!!
