Gen., commanded Hampton's Bde/Whiting's Divn at Seven Pines (w), commanded Hampton's Bde/Cavlary Divn at Sharpsburg, Chambersburg raid, Gettysburg (w), August 1863 Maj. Gen., commanded Hampton's Divn/Cavalry Corps at Wilderness, commanded ANV Cavalry Corps following Stuart's death, Petersburg campaign, February 1865 Lt. Gen., South Carolina.
Post War Career Planter, governor, US senator.
