Various Artists - rmd_does_dylan : B+ (B/A-)
This was a Dylan fan project wherein people who read rmd (rec.music.dylan - the Dylan newsgroup) got together and recorded a bunch of Dylan covers. There was no money made on any of this and so it was all for fun and for the music. The rmd_does_dylan website is here (it'll explain it better than I can). Anyway, it's quite the project and has turned out quite well. The sound is pretty good considering, because everyone recorded on whatever they had available then sent the results in, so the quality varies from track to track; some tracks have some static or a few other technical noises, but none are that bad.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - 10/20/83 Ripley's, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania : A- (A/A-)
Texas Flood has awesome guitar playing (well they all do, this being a Stevie Ray Vaughan concert, but there's something about Texas Flood). Tin Pan Alley, a slow blues, features great emotional guitar and singing. Actually, this is a great show all-around.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - 01/24/85 Tokyo, Japan : B+ (A-/B+)
This soundboard recording of a Stevie Ray Vaughan Tokyo show opens with two instrumental songs, followed by a 15 minute Voodoo Chile. Of course, throughout, Stevie's guitar is smokin' though his voice isn't too upfront in the mix. This is a great show if you love lots of awesome guitar playing and rock/blues. I haven't heard much Stevie Ray Vaughan so I don't know how this compares to his other performances or work.
1. Scuttle Buttin' (instrumental)
2. Say What (instrumental)
3. Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) - written by Jimi Hendrix - Stevie's voice starts off far back in the mix but is soon moved up (this is on original)
4. Cold Shot - written by Clark and Kindred
5. Couldn't Stand The Weather
6. Tin Pan Alley / Dirty Pool
7. Mary Had A Little Lamb - written by Buddy Guy
8. Love Struck Baby
9. Texas Flood - written by Davis and Scott
10. Lenny
Tom Waits - 01/15/77 Osaka, Japan : B (B/B+)
The sound quality isn't great as there are short gaps between each song and there is fuzziness throughout (sometimes it's fairly distracting). The show is jazzy in many ways, sounding a lot like Small Change did (rough voice, saxophone, etc.). It's a fairly enjoyable show; though many songs sound similar, there are definitely great moments here.

Tom Waits - 04/26/77 The Post Aula Bremen, Germany ("Invitation To The Blues") : B+ (A-/B+)
This show's an ok show in very good sound quality. Midnight Lullaby, Grapefruit Moon, and The One That Got Away are all pretty good. Near the end of this disc, Tom starts asking the audience for song requests in a drunken sort of manner (but he doesn't seem to be able/willing to play what they request!). This disc doesn't contain the whole show (as it fades out at the end you can hear the band going into another song).

Tom Waits - 03/??/79 Sydney, Australia ("Cold Beer On A Hot Night") : A (A/A)
This is a great Tom Waits show in great sound quality. From the start the mood is set and you can picture a dark room with this small band, Tom at the mic. Pretty much the whole show's excellent, but three huge highlights are the 12 minute Burma Shave, the powerful Tom Traubert's Blues, and the dramatic Small Change.
1. Romeo Is Bleeding
2. Annie's Back In Town
3. With A Suitcase / Jitterbug Boy / Better Off Without A Wife

12. Small Change / Big Spender - second written by Coleman and Fields
Tom Waits - 11/16/85 Paris, France ("Paris At Midnight") : B+ (A-/B)
Tom likes to tell his crazy stories but unfortunately his talking is very quiet in this recording and it's hard to hear what he's saying. I don't care too much for this show but there are parts of it that are good. I particularly like Underground.
1. Underground
2. Walking Spanish
3. 16 Shells From a Thirty-Ought-Six - dropout in right speaker at 2:21
4. Jockey Full Of Bourbon

Tom Waits - Alice demos : B (A/B)
I'm not sure when the Alice demos were recorded. I'm also not sure about the historical significance of this bootleg because I'm fairly new to Tom Waits, however I imagine that these are somewhat historically important. Another thing that I'm unsure about is whether or not Tom Waits wrote all of these songs. There's a dropout in track 13 after 0:21 has passed. What Became Of Old Father Craft sounds very much like a work-in-progress. The instrumental pieces are quite nice.
1. There's Only Alice
2. And No One Knows I'm Gone
3. Tabletop Joe
4. Komme Nie Zu Spat
5. Hang Me In The Bottle
6. Down The Reeperbahn
7. One, Two And Through
8. Everything You Can Think Of Is True
9. ...But There's Never A Rose
10. What Became Of Old Father Craft
11. Chained Together For Life
12. Falling Down The Lane
13. Untitled - at 0:21 into the track there's a dropout
14. Instrumental Piece 1
15. Instrumental Piece 2
16. Instrumental Piece 3
17. Instrumental Piece 4
18. Instrumental Piece 5
19. Instrumental Piece 6
20. Instrumental Piece 7
21. Instrumental Piece 8
22. Instrumental Piece 9
23. Instrumental Piece 10
Tom Waits - 02/04/96 Oakland, California : A- (B/A-)
This is the only Tom Waits bootleg I have from '96, and because I'm fairly new to Tom Waits, I can't really comment on the actual quality of the show. It sounded really good, so I gave it an A-. The highlights for me were many: I Don't Want To Grow Up, Goin' Out West, That Feel, Filipino Box Spring Hog, and Gun Street Girl. The rest of the show's great as well. There are, unfortunately, very small gaps between each track (they're less than 1 sec long); they're almost unnoticeable. There are skips in disc 1 track 15 and disc 2 track 1 as described below, and a static glitch on disc 2 track 5. I've guessed at the encore divisions (I'm probably wrong...that's a lot of encores!).
Disc 1:
1. I Don't Wanna Grow Up
2. Black Wings
3. Goin' Out West
4. 16 Shells From A Thirty-Ought-Six

Tom Waits - 07/23/99 Florence, Italy : B+ (B-/B+)
Because I'm fairly new to Tom Waits, I can't really comment on the actual quality of the show. It sounded pretty good, so I gave it a B+. The two highlights for me were Jesus Gonna Be Here and 16 Shells From a Thirty-Ought-Six, but many of the other songs are really good. There are two songs on disc 1 track 11 (Tango 'Til They're Sore and Hang Down Your Head).

13. Take It With Me (Tom on piano)
Tom Waits - 09/23/99 New York City, New York ("Invitation To The Blues") : B (B-/B+)
Unfortunately, there are 2 second gaps between each track (I've taken off a letter grade for this). Because I'm fairly new to Tom Waits, I can't really comment on the actual quality of the show. I gave it a B+ because it sounds good.
