Something very interesting happens on Like A Rolling Stone: a woman comes up on stage and yells "Like a rolling stone" into the mike! You should read the anecdote that Peter Stone Brown, as a witness, wrote about this 'event' by clicking here and then scrolling down to the part that says "Late Show", and then scrolling down to the 7th paragraph. Whereas he didn't like this interference while he was there, I must say I think it adds to the show while you're listening to it, but that's just my opinion. The song is so full of energy and Bob's phrasing is just soooo good - it's probably one of my favourite Like A Rolling Stones ever!
04/28/99 Ljubljana, Slovenia : B (B/B)
The sound is a bit limited in that when it gets loud in the show, it doesn't handle it very well (don't know how else to describe it). There are also some static glitches not mentioned that can get a bit annoying. Can't Wait is quite good, and Every Grain Of Sand and Not Dark Yet are nice treats. Nonetheless, I wouldn't recommend this one.

04/30/99 Vienna, Austria : B+ (B+/A-)
The sound quality for Friend Of The Devil would be an A-, but then after that song it drops down to the B+; it's fuzzier after the first song. The Boots Of Spanish Leather on this bootleg is incredible. Makes the bootleg worth getting just for that one song. This show's also got no less than four songs from Time Out Of Mind. The rest of the show's pretty solid and enjoyable, but it's the Boots Of Spanish Leather which makes it really good (and the It Ain't Me, Babe with a long harmonica solo doesn't hurt!). Between tracks 5 and 6, there is a small gap. The sound also fades out (after the song ends) and fades in (before the song begins) between tracks 1 and 2, and tracks 7 and 8.
Disc 1:
1. Friend Of The Devil (acoustic) - written by Robert Hunter, Jerry Garcia, and John Dawson - fades-out at end
2. Mr. Tambourine Man (acoustic)
3. Masters Of War (acoustic)
4. A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall (acoustic)
5. Tangled Up In Blue (acoustic) - small gap between this and next
6. It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (acoustic)

06/14/99 Eugene, Oregon ("Never Mind Paul Simon, Here's Bob Dylan") : A- (A-/A-)
There is some static distortion at times - such as when Bob plays the harmonica. This concert's very good. The acoustic set is wonderful (especially the Don't Think Twice), Down Along The Cove gets its live debut, there's a very interesting Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine), an awesome Can't Wait, and an unbelievable Not Dark Yet. Someone near the recording device for this show cheers loudly during Like A Rolling Stone. Oh, and the filler is great: the live debut of Highlands is here, as well as a different version of it. In both versions, Bob really gets into the song as it progresses - it just keeps on getting better and better! There is some weird wavy distortion at one point in Million Miles.

06/14/99 Eugene, Oregon Soundboard : A- (A/A-)
This is a well mixed soundboard recording of a very good show. Don't Think Twice has a wonderful harmonica solo, Down Along The Cove is debuted, and Most Likely You Go Your Way is great, as are Can't Wait and Not Dark Yet.

"Ace Of Clubs" : A- (A-/A-)
This bootleg takes four summer '99 club performances by Bob Dylan and puts them together over 5 CD's. Discs 1-4 are the four different performances minus the encores: the encores are on disc 5. However, all the encores for 07/06/99 and all but one of the encores for 07/11/99 aren't in this collection. Info on discs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 can be found below, and each disc gets its own rating. The letter grade in brackets next to the disc number before the review is the performance quality letter grade. The sound quality rating is in brackets next to the source of the songs on each disc. For some strange reason, the words "Bob Dylan" from the intro have been cut out.
Disc 1 ("A-"): I have this show from 06/14/99 on a bootleg called "Never Mind Paul Simon, Here's Paul Simon". I prefer this version to the other because it has better sound. However, I also have the soundboard recording of this show. This concert's very good. The acoustic set is wonderful (especially the Don't Think Twice), Down Along The Cove gets its live debut, there's a very interesting Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine), and an awesome Can't Wait.

10. Simple Twist Of Fate
11. Can't Wait
12. Highway 61 Revisited
Disc 2 ("B+"): This show's pretty good all around. It's nice to hear Man In The Long Black Coat. I'll Be Your Baby Tonight sounds good as well. And you can't pass on this show: it's got what must be Bob's worst joke ever (but I laughed anyway! :-)
Disc 2:

11. Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues

13. Love Sick
Disc 4 ("A"): I also have this show from 07/26/99 on a bootleg called "07/26/99 Tramps, New York". Both are very similar in sound: this copy here doesn't have two static pops on Boots Of Spanish Leather like the other recording does. This show contains many rare songs for 2000 including (but not limited to): John Brown, Visions Of Johanna, Ballad Of A Thin Man, and Every Grain Of Sand.

12. Highway 61 Revisited
Disc 5 ("B+"): This disc contains the encores for the 06/14/99 and the 07/26/99 shows. Not Dark Yet is unbelievable. Someone near the recording device for the 06/14/99 show cheers loudly during Like A Rolling Stone. I Shall Be Released from the Tramps show is nice. Highlands is quite good as well and it just keeps on getting better and better as the song progresses.

12. Highlands (Larry on mandolin)
11/09/99 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania : A- (B+/A-)
The way that he sings "tears" in The Lonesome Death is enough to put one to tears. Boots Of Spanish Leather is well done, then the live debut (and so far only version) of A Satisfied Mind. This is one of two times in '99 Bob played Folsom Prison Blues and the only time in '99 that he played Shooting Star. It's also the first Folsom Prison Blues in 6 years and the first Man Of Peace in 3. Many of the songs here are rare. Ballad Of A Thin Man is well done.

The sound mixing moves around a bit throughout, crowd chatter is a bit annoying throughout, and the sound isn't as good as one would hope for with such a wonderful show, but nonetheless this is worth having. The opening acoustic set is all very well done.

11/15/99 Ithaca, New York : B+ (B/A-)
This is one of those great shows when Bob's just on: a great acoustic set, the live debut of Money Honey, and Senor with fiddle. Unfortunately, there are a fair amount of snaps and crackles throughout disc 2 - they aren't very major but they are present every so often.

This show is very good throughout, so it's hard to pick out highlights. Highlands of course has to be singled out as being a great rare song. The acoustic songs are very tenderly sung and the rockers rock hard. This is a great show.

11/19/99 Atlantic City, New Jersey (early show) : A (A-/A)
This is the show that was almost entirely acoustic. The songs are performed very well. Tomorrow Is A Long Time is a personal highlight. Everybody Loves Somebody is on the same track as One Too Many Mornings, but only the first verse (if even) of Everybody Loves Somebody was performed. For most of the show, the sound is more focused on the left speaker than the right.

5. Mama, You Been On My Mind (acoustic) (Bob on harp)
6. It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) (acoustic)

11/19/99 Atlantic City, New Jersey (late show) : A (A/A)
Even though this show looks short (13 songs total), this is indeed the complete show. A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall is really well done. This is the only performance of The Man In Me from '99, and several of these other songs are relatively rare as well. Overall, this is a very good show.

"Not Standing In The Doorway With The Dirt Road Blues (Just Yet)" : B+ (B/B+)
This recording pieces together excellent performances of Time Out Of Mind songs: it has the live debuts of Love Sick, Tryin' To Get To Heaven (which has an acoustic feel to it!), and Highlands, and awesome versions of the other songs! The concept here was to put together live versions of the songs from Time Out Of Mind in order, however, Dirt Road Blues and Standing In The Doorway hadn't been played live at this point. After Highlands, there are three other versions of some of the songs, with all three being significantly different from the other version on this recording. The problem is just that it sounds pieced together: there is no attempt to have one song flow into another (at times, there is some clapping that appears between songs for a second or two then is gone).
1. Love Sick (live debut of this song from Time Out Of Mind)
2. Million Miles
3. Tryin' To Get To Heaven (Bob on acoustic guitar, rest on electric) (live debut of this song from Time Out Of Mind) - there are a few pop sounds here and there
