04/05/92 Melbourne, Australia : B+ (B/B+)
I don't much care for shows in this period of Dylan's career: mid-92. However, this show does have the rare Female Rambling Sailor (a traditional song that Bob has only played 6 times ever, I think), and it also is the first time of two times in which Bob has a 'breakdown' in Desolation Row... At the "for playing the electric violin on Desolation Row" part, Bob's voice becomes very weak and shaky. Apparently, he had tears in his eyes (according to people who were in the front row). He then steps back from the mike and the band goes into several instrumental verses. Reportedly, Bob went to the back of the stage after saying something to Jackson, then after these instrumental verses he came back to sing the last verse. Apparently, the same thing happened when he tried to sing the song again on April 14...

04/14/92 Sydney, Australia : B+ (B/B+)
This is a historically significant show, and is in pretty good quality even though it was transferred from tape cassette. First, it has the live debuts of If Not For You and The Lady Of Carlisle. Second, in Tangled Up In Blue, the line after "soon to be divorced", Dylan's voice fails for a second. It also seems to fail during If Not For You. Now, I might be imagining these two, but Bob definitely has trouble with Desolation Row.
The Desolation Row on track 6 is the second time of two times in which Bob has a 'breakdown' in Desolation Row...the first time was on April 5th (this one is from April 14th, and is the first time since April 5th that he played this song). On the April 5th breakdown, Bob had tears in his eyes (according to people who were in the front row). He then stepped back from the mic and the band went into several instrumental verses. Reportedly, Bob went to the back of the stage after saying something to Jackson, then after these instrumental verses he came back to sing the last verse. In this version, Bob's voice first becomes weak and shaky when he sings "they'll kill him with self-confidence", then again when he sings "with his friend some jealous monk" and he continues to have problems for the rest of the Einstein verse. After some instrumental verses, he comes back and sings the last verse, again with much difficulty.

One of the quotes that sticks with me when listening to this show is from Monica's Dude: "despite singing through his sinus cavities and enunciating like a drunken student practicing a new language, he pulls a few tricks out of the bag". One of these tricks is the Golden Vanity. This show is in pretty good sound quality as it is a soundboard recording. The filler isn't, however, in as good sound quality, and there are fade-outs between the filler tracks. One Too Many Mornings and John Brown from the filler are great, perhaps better than anything from the '92 show.

05/09/92 San Jose, California : B (B+/B)
This recording is missing three songs: Cat's In The Well after It's All Over Now Baby Blue, The Times They Are A-Changin' after Idiot Wind, and Blowin' In The Wind after All Along The Watchtower. Also, the sound moves around every so often. Nonetheless, I believe this is the commonly-circulating recording so this might be as good as it gets. But the show itself isn't very good in terms of performance...
1. Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 (Bob on harp)

This show is from early '92, which is a period in Bob Dylan's career that I really don't much like. Nonetheless, there seem to always be gems in all of Bob's shows and periods. The acoustic set and Queen Jane Approximately stand out for me. I copied this myself from an original copy of this bootleg, so all the problems are on the original as well. There are short, less than one second gaps between each track. The volume is also a bit low (but you can just turn it up).
Disc 1:
1. Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 (Bob on harp)
2. What Good Am I? (Bob on harp)
3. Union Sundown
4. Just Like A Woman (Bob on harp)
5. Drifter's Escape
6. Queen Jane Approximately (Bob on harp)

8. Love Minus Zero/No Limit (solo acoustic) (Bob on harp) - gap of silence at 0:16 - high-pitched sound in background

11. Desolation Row (acoustic) (Bob on harp)
Disc 2:
1. Cat's In The Well
2. Idiot Wind (Bob on harp)

4. Highway 61 Revisited - sound quality is worse for this track and it shifts around

8. Most Of The Time - clipped at start

Bob's vocals are far back in the mix. They can still be heard and understood, but they aren't as close up as one would hope for. Nonetheless, this is a very good concert. Bob's in fine form. The highlights are the wonderful solo acoustic songs and the unbelievably strong Idiot Wind.
Disc 1:
1. To Be Alone With You (Bob on harp)

11/01/92 Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania : B (B-/B)
The first few songs are nicely done but the real highlights are in the acoustic section: Boots Of Spanish Leather is unbelievably good. Unfortunately, the sound isn't great quality: there are some dropouts, some distortion, and small indicators between tracks (these are fairly minor).
Disc 1:
1. West L.A. Fadeaway - written by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter - dropouts in left speaker at start
2. Pretty Peggy-O - written by unknown (traditional - arranged by Bob Dylan)

11/02/92 Youngstown, Ohio ("Himself") : A- (B+/A-)
Despite the fact that there are slight glitches between each song, the content of the album definitely makes up for this. The audience is a bit upfront on this bootleg, which means that sometimes there's some audience chatter (though it's never too distracting) but, more importantly, it gives the show an awesome quality (for example, the person who yells at the start of All Along The Watchtower adds so much for me!). The show opens with an awesome cover song, I Can't Be Satisfied. The whole bootleg is great, but personal favorites include All Along The Watchtower, all of the acoustic songs, and I've Been All Around This World. By the way, most of the electric songs have at least one acoustic guitar - Farewell To The Gold, for example, sounds more like an acoustic song.
Disc 1:
1. I Can't Be Satisfied - written by Muddy Waters
2. If Not For You (Bob on harp) - annoying audience chatter at start
3. All Along The Watchtower (Bob on harp)
4. Farewell To The Gold - written by Paul Metsers
5. It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry
6. I And I
7. Silvio
8. Mama, You Been On My Mind (solo acoustic) (Bob on harp)
9. Boots Of Spanish Leather (solo acoustic) (Bob on harp)
Disc 2:
1. Mr. Tambourine Man (acoustic: Bob with Tony Garnier on bass) (Bob on harp)

This show's pretty good, with a great setlist: I Can't Be Satisfied, Pretty Peggy-O, Dear Landlord, etc. I'd recommend this show after another bootleg I have from late '92: 11/02/92 Youngstown, Ohio ("Himself").

1. I Can't Be Satisfied - written by Muddy Waters - very small dropout at 0:33

"From Springtime Into Autumn" ('92 compilation) : B (B/B+)
There are fade-outs and fade-ins between some of the tracks, gaps between others, etc., which I suppose makes sense since this is a compilation. There are some rarities and some of these songs are quite good, but it is from '92 which is a period I don't much care for so I don't care too much for most of these songs. Trail Of The Buffalo, Delia, Desolation Row (which is the second "Desolation Row breakdown" - click here for my review for the 04/14/92 show, which will explain the "Desolation Row breakdown"), The Lady Of Carlisle, I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine (the first since 01/12/90 Toad's Place), To Ramona, and all of the songs on disc 3 (I like later '92, but dislike the earlier parts - I have the complete 11/02/92 Younstown, Ohio show on a different bootleg and it's worth getting!) are all of interest to me.
