08/31/69 Isle Of Wight : A (B/A)
The famous Isle Of Wight concert was one of only three performances done in '69. It's really wonderful to hear some of Bob's 'older' songs being performed with a country flavour to them. There are eight live debuts at this show. She Belongs To Me, Like A Rolling Stone, Quinn The Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn), and Minstrel Boy were officially released on Self Portrait. There are gaps of silence between each track as the songs are usually from different sources, which causes the sound quality to range from excellent to poor (tracks 8-9, 12, 17), so I made a compromise of sorts and assigned the sound quality a letter grade of 'B'. Highlights are too many to list; this isn't a show that I listen to very often, but when I do I find that I'm rewarded each time.
1. She Belongs To Me
2. I Threw It All Away
3. Maggie's Farm

Dylan/Cash Sessions : A- (A/A-)
Tracks 1-15 make up the studio session Bob had with Johnny Cash. Bob and Johnny duet on all of the songs. Tracks 16-18 are from the Johnny Cash show in '69 and Bob debuted two songs. Tracks 19-23 are different mixes of some of the Nashville Skyline songs. All of these are very interesting to listen to and so this bootleg is very much worth having. The sound quality is very good for the Cash/Dylan Sessions but then it gets worse for the Johnny Cash Show. It picks up a lot for the Nashville Skyline alternate mixes. From the Dylan/Cash Sessions, Girl From The North Country was used on the official Nashville Skyline.

'69-'70 outtakes ("Possum Belly Overalls") : A- (A-/A-)
This is the studio session Bob had with George Harrison. Bob's singing with a voice comparable to that on New Morning (though there's still a taste of Nashville Skyline left). There are some very interesting songs here and some very interesting arrangements of songs Bob has written. It's very interesting to hear the way some of the songs start: Bob starts strumming away and starts singing, then some of the other instruments come in, and, by the end of the song, the song's full of energy; it all just seems to come together, to fall into place. I remember a disappointment I had when I first got this: Da Doo Ron Ron wasn't the song I thought it was. The lyrics for the song they do here can be found here. The singing in Ghost Riders In The Sky is very far back in the mix and almost can't be heard, and Song To Woody has the first few seconds skipped. The last two songs are from a different time and place: they are Self Portrait outtakes and, unfortunately, have worse sound quality than the other 19 tracks (the songs are well done by Bob).
Dylan/Harrison Session (05/01/70 New York City, New York):
1. Ghost Riders In The Sky - written by unknown (?) - singing is very far back in mix (you almost can't hear any singing at all)
2. Cupid - written by unknown (?)
3. All I Have To Do Is Dream - written by Boudleaux and Felice Bryant
4. Gates Of Eden
5. I Threw It All Away
6. I Don't Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Met)
7. Matchbox - written by Carl Perkins
8. True Love, Your Love - written by unknown (?)
9. Wondering When My Swamp's Gonna Catch On Fire - written by unknown (?)
10. I'm Goin' Fishing - written by unknown (?)
11. Honey Just Allow Me One More Chance - written by Henry Thomas (arranged by Bob Dylan)
12. Rainy Day Women #12 & 35
13. Song To Woody (Bob on harp) - first few seconds skipped (a few harmonica notes)
