The filler is from the previous night also in Santa Cruz. The filler contains the first Drifter's Escape since 07/07/96...and is it ever different from the Drifter's Escape that was usually played in 2000! It's quite interesting. Bob's phrasing is very good on this night; there's some especially memorable phrasing in many of these songs! I love the guitar solo near the end of The Times They Are A-Changin'. This is one of the three times Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour was played in 2000, and one of the two times Born In Time was played. Unfortunately, there are some minor problems with volume on disc 2.
03/10/00 Anaheim, California (early performance) : B+ (B/A-)
The very first show by Bob Dylan in the year 2000. This show contains two live debuts: Tell Me That It Isn't True and Things Have Changed. Dylan sounds great in the year 2000, and this bootleg shows that. There's some annoying chatter throughout this bootleg...I can't believe that people would chatter away during these songs (the audience chatter nearly caused me to drop the sound quality letter grade from a B down to a B-). Tomorrow Is A Long Time and Not Dark Yet are highlights, as are the two live debuts. After This World Can't Stand Long someone in the audience asks, "This is why everyone cried Judas, right?"...priceless! This concert's great, a bit short compared to the rest of the 2000 shows, but great nonetheless (plus, it only requires one CD instead of two!).

This is the second show of 2000, and features two very special moments on it: the live debut of Country Pie and the first (and, as of 04/30/02, the only) We Better Talk This Over since '78 (which is now only the second song from Street Legal to have been played since '78). The volume's a bit quiet throughout and most of the sound is on the right speaker. The highlights here are Blind Willie McTell and the rare Dear Landlord. For some reason, Van Morrison's Astral Weeks has been pirated and put on the end of disc 2 - if I trade this I will leave these off.

Bob's vocals are very upfront. This is a great show; Bob's phrasing is wonderful. This is probably my favourite Don't Think Twice from the year 2000. This show contains the first Drifter's Escape since 07/07/96...and is it ever different from the Drifter's Escape that was usually played in 2000! It's quite interesting. There are quite a few minor glitches (see below for details - these glitches contributed to the sound quality letter grade being dropped one letter): the volume often changes levels between songs (it gets louder for the music and quieter for the audience). Hopefully these won't make too many people think this bootleg isn't worth having (because it is). Every song (except Silvio, which needed a bit more rehearsal) is worth hearing from this show.
Disc 1:
1. Oh Babe, It Ain't No Lie (acoustic) - written by Elizabeth Cotton
2. Mr. Tambourine Man (acoustic)
3. Masters Of War (acoustic) - very small static glitch at 4:29 (it's pretty much insignificant)
4. Don't Think Twice, It's All Right (acoustic)
5. Tangled Up In Blue (acoustic) (Bob on harp) - minor dropout at 1:31
6. Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour (acoustic) (Larry on mandolin) - written by Frances J. Crosby and William H. Doane
7. Hootchie Cootchie Man - written by Willie Dixon - volume gets a bit quieter in this song for a while - a few pop sounds every so often
8. Positively 4th Street (Larry on pedal steel)
9. Drifter's Escape
10. Things Have Changed
11. Not Dark Yet - sound gets quiet during the band introductions at the end
12. Highway 61 Revisited (Larry on straight steel guitar - double neck table model) - sound stays quiet during this track
Disc 2:
encore:
1. Love Sick
2. Silvio
3. It Ain't Me, Babe (acoustic) (Bob on harp)
4. Not Fade Away - written by Buddy Holly
03/16/00 Santa Cruz, California : A (B+/A)
This show, like the other Santa Cruz show from 03/15/00, is great. One Too Many Mornings and Tangled Up In Blue both seem very powerful this night. This show contains the only Big River from 2000, and one of the only two performances of Highlands from 2000. Highlands is great, with people laughing and responding quite well. After You're A Big Girl Now, Bob says: "I know I speak for 'em all [the band members] when we say that we wish we could play here every night...we've got enough songs to do that!"; the crowd, of course, goes wild. Highlands and Blowin' In The Wind from this concert have been officially released on a bonus CD which came with The Best Of Bob Dylan Volume 2. Unfortunately, at some points in this show, the sound seems to shift around a bit.
Disc 1:
1. I Am The Man, Thomas (acoustic) - written by Ralph Stanley and Larry Sparks
2. Song To Woody (acoustic)
3. It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) (acoustic)
4. One Too Many Mornings (acoustic) (Larry on pedal steel)
5. Tangled Up In Blue (acoustic) (Bob on harp)
6. Rock Of Ages (acoustic) - written by unknown (traditional)
7. Big River - written by Johnny Cash
8. Highlands (Larry on mandolin) (Tony on standup bass) - some bump sounds at 3:08
9. Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again
10. You're A Big Girl Now (Larry on pedal steel)
11. Highway 61 Revisited (Larry on pedal steel)
encore:
12. Love Sick
Disc 2:
1. Maggie's Farm - glitch at 4:31 that makes the word Bob's singing sound odd
2. Blowin' In The Wind (acoustic) (Bob on harp)
3. Not Fade Away - written by Buddy Holly
filler:
4. Oh Babe, It Ain't No Lie (acoustic) - written by Elizabeth Cotton
5. Mr. Tambourine Man (acoustic)
6. Positively 4th Street (Larry on pedal steel)
7. Drifter's Escape
8. Things Have Changed
9. Not Dark Yet

This was the first Bob Dylan show I've ever been to and unfortunately, Bob didn't use the harmonica at all. I find this show very hard to review for the following reason: when I listen to a show, I hear traces of other shows in the back of my mind and so I can compare the show I'm hearing to others I've heard, but this show seems to stand on its own because I was there and the show sounds the way it's supposed to (it's so familiar it's hard to tell if it's good, average, or whatever). I've come back and reviewed this concert after seeing that Olof's Chronicles mentioned it as one of the recommended shows for all of the year 2000. My page on my seeing this show can be found by clicking here.

The Man In Me was only performed twice in the year 2000. Watching The River Flow, Highway 61 Revisited, and Rainy Day Women are all very rockin'! This is a pretty good show all-around.

Throughout the year 2000, Bob only played White Dove, You Ain't Goin' Nowhere, and Lenny Bruce once...all of them were at this show. Knockin' On Heaven's Door was only performed twice in the year 2000. It's quiet well done except that the guitar work isn't very great. There are very minor quiet pop sounds on disc 2.

04/06/00 Denver, Colorado : A- (A-/A-)
Before hearing the Towson-style Mr. Tambourine Man, the version from this concert was my favourite from 2000. It still is very good! The sound moves around a bit as the taper adjusts the levels through the first two songs. This Desolation Row is also one of the more interesting versions from 2000 (which means that it's quite good as well). The acoustic set is the highlight of this show. The sound quality decreases a little bit for Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat (about half a letter grade), but is then back up to 'normal' for the rest of the show.
Disc 1:
1. Roving Gambler (acoustic) - written by unknown (traditional)

5. Tangled Up In Blue (acoustic)
6. Gates Of Eden (acoustic) (Larry on bazouki)
7. Country Pie
8. Blind Willie McTell (Larry on bazouki)
9. Watching The River Flow
10. Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again - gap between this and next (fade-out and fade-in)
11. Tell Me That It Isn't True
12. Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat
