Introduction and Purpose The Transatlantic Slave trade is often considered, albeit quietly, to be one of the darkest periods of human history. An extremely cruel business, the cold economics, the horrendous dehumanization, and the myriad of justifications (religious and otherwise) behind the trade give hints to the potential of human apathy and greed. This site is an attempt to shed much needed light on this most dark era in the creation of the world we know today. We must understand that the very society we live in and cherish was built largely on the foundation of slavery, so it cannot be said to have had no practical benefits. However, the purpose of this project is to emphasize the price paid for the creation of our society, a purpose which is driven by a desire to avoid the same mistakes and seek new methods of attaining our goals while simultaneously maintaining the rights and liberties of all people. |
