Biography
Rob Lowe headlines the NBC drama "The Lyon's Den" as John "Jack Turner, a maverick, idealistic attorney - the son of an American political dynasty -- struggling to keep his moral center at the law firm Lyon, LaCross and Levine in Washington, D.C. "Jack Turner is a true believer," says Lowe. "He cherishes the fairness and majesty of the law and hates those who would pervert it for their own gain.  People are not who they seem to be, but Jack is no fool.  He knows he lives in treacherous waters."
Behind the camera, Lowe is also an executive producer.  "If I was to return to series television, I needed to have an arena in which I could change myself, put my experience to new uses and learn," says Lowe.

Last year, Lowe completed his fourth and final season as deputy communications director Sam Seaborn in NBC's Emmy Award- winning "The West Wing".  Lowe's performance earned him his fourth Golden Globe nomination as well as two SAG awards and an Emmy nomination.  In 2002 he starred in the top-rated holiday movie for television "The Christmas Shoes."  Previously he could be seen in the cable movie "Framed" and in the miniseries "The Stand."  In 1999, Lowe starred as Young Number Two in the smash hit sequel "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me." Most recently he completed the Stephen King miniseries called "Salem's Lot."
Lowe was raised in Dayton, Ohio and began his career in the theater.  His family relocated to Los Angeles, where an early television credit was the Emmy-winning "A Matter of Time." He appeared in the series "A New Kind of Family" and was featured in the TV movie "Thursday's Child" for which he received his first Golden Globe nomination. Lowe made his big-screen debut in "The Outsiders," and then starred in "Class," "Hotel New Hampshire," "Oxford Blues," "Youngblood," "St. Elmo's Fire" and "About Last Night."

Lowe was nominated for his second Golden Globe based on his performance in the film "Square Dance," co-starring Jane Alexander. In this film, he portrayed a mentally disabled young adult in love with a girl played by Winona Ryder (in her film debut). In 1987, Lowe starred in the sexy mystery "Masquerade" and in 1990, he starred as an enigmatic psychopath in "Bad Influence."  In 1992 Lowe became a charter member in the National Actors Theater and starred with Tony Randall and Lynn Redgrave in "A Little Hotel on the Side" on Broadway. Also in 1992, he starred as a manipulative Benjamin in "Wayne's World," opposite Mike Meyers.

Lowe then starred with Maggie Smith in the BBC's "Suddenly Last Summer."  In 1994, he starred in and produced the film "Frank and Jesse," in which he starred as Jesse James. His other film credits include "Tommy Boy" and "Mulholland Falls."  Lowe also wrote and directed the short film "Desert's Edge" which debuted at the Los Angeles International Film Festival.  Lowe, his wife Sheryl, and their sons currently reside in California.  His birthday is March 17.
