It's mind boggling when you think about how the world of mature, thinking, intellectual people (adults included!) get caught up in the whirlwind star-struck wonder of these 4 little Japanese girls. At barely 20-years old, the already famous Sunday Girls have made a big name for themselves. Thanks to their more-than-average looks and the popular game show Super Sunday. Edging out 2000 other hopefuls and 12 weeks of tough competition to make it to the TV-based pop group, Ai Sa, Chi Ka, Ma I and Tomo Ko are now almost as popular as teen groups F4 and Tension. They are such cuties! Epitomising the infamous Harujuku teen culture, the 4 giggling stars of Sunday Girls painted a cheery picture as they trooped into the conference room last Friday, bowing sweetly and shouting merry hellos. In a myriad of oddly-matched, brightly-coloured shorts, tubes-tops and skirts, the young celebrities fielded questions in their recently-acquired Mandarin as best they could. Ai Sa said the best way to learn Chinese is to talk a lot and converse on the phone, chatted the garrulous Ai Sa. She spends a whopping NT$10,000 (S$529) a month on long distance calls talking to her parents and friends almost everyday. I want to talk and say things but my limited Mandarin makes it hard, she continued, describing life for the foursome, who is now based in Taiwan. Despite the language barrier, the girls' enthusiasm, endless chatter and little jokes between themselves in their native tongue was obvious testimony to the enjoyment of their first visit to Singapore. As the object of many adolescent boys' fantasies, the Sunday Girls who were formed just over a year ago are thankfully, swinging singles for now. Any chance to get boyfriends!?laughed Ai Sa, saying, like a well-disciplined celebrity, that work was more important for them now. And just like any other young girl, the Japanese starlets cited a good heart, humour, gentleness and good looks as ideal boyfriend material. With large doe eyes, long hair and feminine curves, ex-model Ma I, the eldest of the 4 is often touted as the hottest babe most popular with the boys. Don't think so, quipped the shy beauty, who was quick to share the attention with her group mates,?All of us are equally liked by guys. Have male fans ever followed you home, asked a reporter. And the pretty Ma I crinkled her lovely forehead in shock and shook her head most violently, No, that would be terrible!! They have obviously been well shielded from the crazy world of fanatics so far. Touching base with stardom. Although it was a dream come true for the quartet to make it to Sunday Girls, they are certainly not taking their career as just a joyride of fun and fame. Coming to Taiwan is something we decided ourselves so we can never give up or complain, said Ma I with a maturity that belied the girls' giggly Legally Blond appearance. Ai Sa continued, we missed home and wanted to go back very much in the beginning, but we concentrated and worked hard on succeeding and it much better now. The Sunday Girls recently released their debut album Sukidayo (Liking You) in August and have since become even hotter property. So watch out China Dolls, Sunday Girls are a force to be reckoned with!
