Welcome to the Home Page of Cole's Cavalry,
Sons of Veteran's Reserve (SVR)!
As a part of the Sons of Veterans Reserve, Cole's Cavalry is
the ceremonial uniformed military component of the Luray-Carlisle Reunion Camp #1881. Our focus is on
continuing the mission of the SUVCW by participating in activities such as ceremonies, parades, living history
programs, and reenactments. We officially organized in August 2007 and adopted the "Cole's Cavalry" title in honor
of the 1st Potomac Home Brigade Cavalry (otherwise known as Cole's Maryland Volunteer Cavalry). The original
"Cole's Cavalry" was made up of recruits, not only from Maryland, but also Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia
and the District of Columbia. Considering that so many of us, as members of the Luray-Carlisle Reunion Camp,
have Union ancestors from many of these states, the selection of the unit designation as "Cole's Cavalry" is very
appropriate.
The Sons of Veterans Reserve (SVR) is the ceremonial uniformed military component of the Sons of Union
Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW). The National Military Department of the SVR consists of the General Staff
and seven geographical Military Districts across the nation. Cole's Cavalry is part of the Second Military
District (of which Virginia is part). While most of our members are also members of the Luray-Carlisle Reunion
Camp #1881, Sons of Union Veterans, we also have members from other camps from the Department of Maryland, SUVCW.
