Bluegrace PWD'sat the Sunbury Show, 2002 Judge: Bill Shelton (US) |
Every year in a town 30 minutes north west of Melbourne in Victoria (Australia), the biggest one day show of the year in the Southern Hemisphere occurs. Held on Melbourne Cup day, the dog show attracts entries from all over Australia, with a full international judging panel attracting a huge entry. This year, the show attracted over 2500 entries.
Group 6 (Utility Group) got one of the largest entries with over 430 dogs. Two judges were appointed over the split group, with Mr Bill Shelton from the US, judging the larger portion of the group with 250 dogs, and then judging Group Specials.
Mr Shelton is a well respected international judge, who amongst many prestigious appointments, judged the 1999 Portuguese Water Dog National Specialty in the US.
The pwd is still a relatively rare show dog in Australia, with less than 20 pwd's currently been shown around the country.
Bluegrace entered 8 of their dogs to this show.

He was so impressed, when it came to Group Specials, he awarded the following:

In all, we were absolutely thrilled with the result, with every Bluegrace dog that when on to group classes being shortlisted. Given Mr Shelton is so experienced in the breed, these placings were even more special.
I would like to pass on a big thank you to those people who provided so much support and help on the day to get dogs ready and groomed, swapped broken leads, handed over bait and tennis balls, and generally helped me be the best handler I could be. I couldn't have done it without them. Thank you!
