Response to Mr. Dawkins
Dear Mr. Dawkins,
I disagree with several of your statements that you make during your interview with Steve Paulson. I don’t believe that only atheists are intelligent and believers in a God are not. That statement degrades many intelligent people in the world such as Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. Another point that I disagree on is that I do not believe that moderate religious people create extremists. Moderates and extremists both disagree with each other and moderates raise their kids to not only create a strong faith but to also look down on the extremist views. Also, I disagree that Darwin destroyed God by developing his theory of evolution. I think that his theory only changed how people view the creation of the Earth of the existence of man. Darwin’s theories still leave a loophole in which one must find the source of life and this source of life could still be God. Just because Darwin’s theory contradicts the theory of creationism in the Bible does not mean that everything in the Bible is wrong. Some stories in the Bible are in there more for their morals and teachings then their word for word events. How can you completely determine a God cannot exist when you cannot explain some events in the world? In your interview, you said that you do not know how a conscience exists, yet you say that it cannot be God. How do you explain other events like exorcisms? As far as I know, science and medicine have not been able to explain or cure an exorcism yet priests have. Till you actually solve everything with science and reasoning, I do not believe that you can reasonably say that a God cannot exist.
However, I do agree with you on several points like the belief that faith is dangerous. I agree that the lack of evidence to support faith in a God can lead to dangerous interpretations in faith, similar to how extremists kill infidels in the name of faith. Also, I agree that parents should not push one faith or another. I will not go as far as to say that it is child abuse by pushing one faith but I believe that a child should be able to choose their faith at a knowledgeable age. Overall I found your interview very challenging and interesting as I heard some valid points against God.
Sincerely,
Brian
