At the junk yard you can get broken windshield glass. Sometimes even for free. When
windshields break it is into small pieces that do not have sharp edges. You get that glass
and glue it all over the top of a small table that you were wondering what to do with
because it's so ugly. You grout in the edges between with a nice dark grout. Then
you take stained glass paint and paint the individual pieces of glass into a mosaic.
It can be random or it can be pictures. It's an enormously fun project! You can
make just about anything if you have a little talent.. pentacles, goddess images,
the green man..whatever! You can also do this with multicolored small ceramic
tiles or broken ceramic tiles and then paint things on top of those. The possibilities
are endless! You can even cover your alter in this way and make it extremely
personal! If you don't have an old ratty table in need of decoration, you
can go and get one of those inexpensive three legged round tables at Kmart.
OR any unfinished table would work too. I got mine from a thrift store and it cost
me $3. If you don't want to do glass or tile work, there is always painting and
stenciling that can be done. These are just great projects for older kids.
They can learn how much work goes into these sorts of projects, decorate
their rooms with something they made themselves, or make them for gifts!
In my home I needed to put gates across doorways. I did not have the money
to go out and buy baby gates and did not want to install them into the
walls making even more holes. Instead I got a sheet of thin plywood and cut
it into several lengths. I painted them white and then sponge painted over
that with green. I was able to make really nifty patterns with the sponge
and each side is different. They came out as really nice looking gates. I
put a book shelf on either side of the door I needed to cover and the gate
sits behind them. When I need to go through I slide the gate out of the
way. They are too heavy for a small child to move, too high for the dog to
jump over and easy for a bigger child or adult to move. They makea great
effective and attractive barrier!
I got this in a emailing group it was from Wolf MistWeaver, so thank you for sharing
this with us :)
