Mark Bowden was born in St. Louis Missouri in 1951. Bowden grew up in Illinois, New York, and Maryland. He graduated from Loyola college of Maryland in 1973, with a BA in English literature and writing. As of right now, he lives in Pennsylvania. Mark Bowden is the author of about six books. In 1999 he wrote the best seller “Blackhawk Down: a story of modern day war.” It was an international bestseller that spent a year on the New York Times bestseller list and was a finalist for the nation Book Award. Other that the written form of that story, Bowden wrote on a screenplay of it, which eventually inspired people to make a movie out of it. The movie was directed by Ridley Scott and was a hit when it premiered in 2003. The movie, which entertained millions of people, could not have been made without the work of Mark Bowden himself.
            Mark Bowden is also the author of another international bestseller called “Killing Pablo: The Hint for the World’s Greatest Outlaw.” It was written in 2001 while the Blackhawk Down movie was being made. “Killing Pablo” tells the story of the hint for Colombian cocaine dealer named Pablo Escobar. This book won the overseas press clubs Cornelius Ryan Award as the best book of 2001 and is currently being made into a movie with the same possible potential of Blackhawk Down. Bowden is also making a screenplay of this one as well.
            Mark Bowden continues to write books still today. As of now, he is also the author of “Doctor Dealer” written in 1987, “Bringing the Heat” in 1994, “Our Finest Day” in 2002 and “Finders Keepers” written in 2002 as well.
            Bowden contributes on a regular basis to major American magazines and media. Aside from al the bookwork, screenplay, and contributions, he is also a professor at Loyola College of Maryland, the same college in which he graduated from. He teaches creative writing and journalism hoping to pass on the talent he possesses.
