When I read Finder’s Keepers, it only took me 2 days to read it. That’s because I couldn’t put it down. It was funny, the characters had life to them, and I could relate to them. The story takes place in the 80’s and it is about an unemployed druggy named Joey Coyle who cant get his life together. In fact, he was on his way to another drug deal with his neighborhood friends when he sees a yellow box on the side of the road. The driver, John, says he could use the toolbox so they turn around and grab it. Joey actually finds two canvas bags full of unmarked $100 bills that count out o $1.2 million. It all goes downhill from there for Joey. The book takes you through all of Joey’s escapades with the money and how everyone is after him for it. The book kept me interested because it was serious was humorous at the same time. Another thing that Mark Bowden did that I liked was that he sucked the reader into his story and he has the ability to make you laugh aloud or even yell at the book for some of the bonehead ideas Joey comes up with and the decisions he makes. Everyone in the book deceives each other, which adds to the humor, and the alliances he makes with his so-called “friends” crumble because of their envy for his money. It is not only a very funny book but also it is also non-fiction and you never know what will happen next. There were good things and bad things about finding the money. He gave some of it away but the police tracked him down for grand larceny. Later we find out he commits suicide which is sad because it proves that money is the root of all the worlds problems. I wish the book was longer so I could keep reading because it was such a great literary work.. I think that Mark Bowden is definitely one of the greatest writers of our time. If I was a book reviewer I would give this book two thumbs way up. After you read this masterpiece of a book you would ask yourself, “what would I do with a million dollars?” |
