In the year 1993 the same year, that Mark Bowden wrote Black Hawk Down, William J. Clinton was holding office. He liked having more peace and economic well being then out of anytime in history. (1) He was also the first democratic president to win a second term besides Franklin Roosevelt. (1) He was born on August 19, 1946 in Hope, Arkansas. He had taken the families name while in high school. Clinton graduated from the University of Georgetown. Clinton was also impeached by the House of Representatives, who was the second U.S. president to do so.
There were also largely amounts of deaths occurring in 1993. They were caused by heat or something relative to heat. The heat wave was from July – July 13, 1993. Heat was the cause of 84 deaths among the people who lived in the Philadelphia area. (2) There were many cases of deaths caused by heat or hypothermia. There was one case when a one year old was in a car with the windows closed for about 75 minutes and died from hypothermia. With another case, it was with a 68 year old man, which was found somewhat decomposed in his apartment. The cause of his death was atherosclerotic heart disease. There are categories of people that had a greater risk for heat relation illnesses. The categories are incredibly young, elderly, and people who overwork themselves in warm or hot environments. (3)
