One thing that kind of confused me during the story was why were the Rangers and the Deltas even there in Somalia in the first place? So I asked if there was the point for the fight in Somalia in 1993. What was the real reason for the Ranger force to be out there being killed? I had two replies on this one, well three when you count the first persons defense statement. The first person threw out there that at the beginning of the movie they gave you some information about why they were there and that “there was a great famine, and the warlords were capturing the food that was supposed to go to the starving people. The U.S. sent in a force of 20, 000 marines to restore order, as soon as the marines left the war lords started up again. Delta force and the rangers were sent in to restore order yet again. One of the biggest tragedies is that due to public pressure the U.S. forces were pulled out, is 5 American lives worth more then millions of starving Africans?” But the seconded person spoke up about what really happened and said that “everyone needs to check their facts. That the first person was way off and the film was loosely, and I do mean loosely based on the events of that Sunday in October. The Marines had already come and gone by the time this happened and Rangers and Delta were inserted to get Aided only, not restore or keep the peace as the UN was there with its peacekeepers. TFRanger and Delta were only put in after 24 Paki peacekeepers and 5 US servicemen were killed. For the record, there were 15,000 soldiers, sailors and airmen on the ground and only a little over 1500 shooters (TFR and Delta with a mixed bag of SEALs, USAF PJ's and other assorted SpecOps personnel). He also stated that the first guy should check more sources then the Bowden book and this film before trying to answer a question you aren't qualified to make a comment on.” At that counter attack the first person said “my my, I’m sorry I didn't take the time to google my answer. And don't be so pretentious "you aren't qualified to make a comment on" give me a break.” It was funny to read these two people arguing about research and getting facts straight. My last question I posted was not that persuasive to answer as some of the other ones or as difficult to come up with. All I asked was where do you stand for Black Hawk Down? Did you think it was good and enjoyed it or did you hate it and think it was a complete waste of time, please support your answer. Well I did get one response but it was more on the movie than on the book as I hoped for but she typed that she love the Movie and was currently looking for the book. She thought it was a very good movie and after watching it she found herself wanting to know more about the whole thing. It was strange because she remember watching it on one of the Encore channels and had missed half of it so she taped it so she could have it and she went to Wal-Mart that night and saw the DVD package and bought it right away. Anyways this movie kind of talked her into watching Hotel Rwanda which now happens to be one of her favorite movies (along side Black Hawk Down) She said she enjoys having a conversation with a group of adults and when they start talking about it, she actually know what they are talking about because of this movie. In the end she said that she thought it was a well made movie and was happy they made it also think we need more like it. She then went on to apologize for her mindless ranting and that she just LOVES this movie! |

I had a heck of a time trying to find a site that discussed Black Hawk Down. So I was relieved to finally fine one that fitted my needs and also my patients were running low. I posted a total of five questions but disappointingly only a few received answers. My first question I came up with was which out of all the weapons that the Somalis used was the most devastating towards the Ranger force? I only received one answer so far and this person response by telling that the Somalis numbers supported by AK’s and the Ranger’s overconfidence and underestimation of their enemy. I have to agree with him because the Rangers did continually underestimate the Somalis and the Somalis attacked with many armed soldier, that the Ranger had not planed on. The Second question I posted was what was your favorite part about Black Hawk Down? I know that seems like a cheesy question but it’s difficult to think of questions but I did get a response back for it. His reply was that his favorite part was when Shugart and Gordon go down to help Durant. But I love every second of this movie because of the bravery of all the soldiers (and some other things). The Rangers and the Deltas were very brave through out the whole nightmare but some were braver than others or more dedicated depending on how you look at it which leads me to my next question. Which out of any one of the soldier do you think was the strongest and the most dedicated out of everyone else. Who put up with and kept fighting through the most pain during the fight? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
