Chapter 1: Dream Girl *She could only exist in a dream…* *Dancing on moonbeams and flying with the stars…* *Every being would bow down in her beauty…* *Her love would be only for me…* Bai Hu sighed, chewing the end of his lead pencil. He had finally finished it. The drawing of a girl unimaginable, but only imaginable to him. She lay on the paper, smiling peacefully up at him, large violet eyes sparkling, long auburn hair flowing beautifully around her delicate featured face. She stood, tall and slender, individual perfection. ‘I only wish there were such a girl,’ he said a little sadly, withdrawing the pencil from his mouth and brushing away the eraser leftovers. He stood up and lifted the paper, in the gloom of his room and with the dim light from his desk lamp, he gazed at her longingly. ‘You would greet me every morning with the warmest smile, shaming the warmth of the sun, and your kisses would be as cool as a night’s breeze and as sweet as honey.’ He turned toward his window and stared up at the endless skies, twinkling with diamond stars and the moon shone full and bright, like a large white marble. They reflected in his longing eyes. A star shot down in the corner of his eye. He just saw it. It descended slowly, threatening to vanish. ‘I wish…that you were real…that you would come for me…and love me, only me.’ He closed his eyes and sighed, ‘Oh dream girl…’ Chapter 2: New student surprise The next day was thought to be a regular school day. He came to school wearing the same uniform, carrying the same books under his arm, and greeting the same friends with a slapping of high-fives and noogies to the brow. He entered class the same way, his black loafers clacking against the white, yellowing linoleum floor, and took his seat third row from the back. He leaned his elbows on his polished wooden desk and rested his chin in his palms, staring vacantly ahead as their usual tutor, Mr. Minamoto, entered and called the role. But something out of the usual schedule occurred. Mr. Minamoto announced, ‘I have a special surprise for all of you…’ Bai Hu raised his head in mild interest. A foot appeared in the door, and soon, a leg, then another leg, then a whole body wearing their school’s girl uniform. He watched the body walk to the middle of the room, and stopped there beside their teacher. He gave them all his usual cheeky smile, looking youthful in his middle age. ‘I’d like you to meet our new transfer student from Kyoto, Japan. Her name is Mirror Ukiyo.’ He turned his head and addressed the new student, ‘Miss Ukiyo, say a little about yourself.’ Bai Hu still didn’t look up at the girl’s face. She would just be like any other girl this school had ever received. A boy-obsessed, air-headed bimbo. It didn’t matter what they looked like or where they came from; they were all the same on the inside. An empty shell of ditziness. ‘Hey, you know my name already – Mirror, but friends back home call me Miliko,’ said a gruff, but sweet sort of voice. That was strange. She didn’t use rephrased words of “like” and “something”. He heard several squeals and murmurs from girls seated behind him. He mentally rolled his eyes. ‘My family lineage is of Japanese and Spanish, yes, explaining my light hair color, of course.’ Bai Hu raised his head slightly, still eyeing her middle. She had long slender legs and a skinny middle, hardly any chest, but she seemed feminine enough. He raised his head further until he eyed her slender pale neck. ‘Thank you very much,’ the teacher said and turned to the class, ‘I hope you can make her all feel welcome!’ That was it. He decided to look up and stop wondering. His jaw dropped open. With a skip of his heart and a leap of his stomach, his head screamed, “It’s her!” She had layered auburn hair, a fringe falling over her eyes, and those eyes…violet! The most beautiful shade of purple! That innocent look about her face…everything, from features to skin color fell into place…it was his dream girl! It was actually her, in the breathing, living flesh! Bai Hu felt his insides would disappear when her eyes shifted and landed on him. They were surprisingly piercing, like pinning him on the spot, freezing him in one place, his breath caught in his throat. She saw him! She knew he existed! Had she come to be his? ‘Mirror, take your seat and we shall begin the class,’ said Mr. Minomoto. ‘Yes sir,’ she said. She gave Bai Hu one more icy look and proceeded down the isle, both boys and girls staring at her. She took the seat behind him. Her glare burned like dry ice into his head. He inwardly cringed. Why was she giving him that look? Wasn’t he the one that had wished for her, and had brought her into existence? Chapter 3: Uh Oh! Enemy alert! Bai Hu and his friends anticipated recess, to get a closer glimpse of this new girl and perhaps even get to know her. It didn't take them long to find her, for beyond the forever blending crowd of nationalities and colors, they saw her standing in the center, surrounded by every girl Bai Hu knew by name. They all clutched their hands and gave the new girl glowing looks, their eyes shining with respect, marvel and excitment. 'What's going on here?' asked one of his friends curiously. 'Looks like a cult gathering.' Bai Hu shrugged his shoulders and danced around on his toes to get a closer view of the new girl known as Mirror. 'Oh! You're so cool!' giggled a blond. 'I wanna be just like you.' 'I'm flattered, but it's good to be yourself,' answered Mirror, winking at the girl who immediately squealed with glee. The girl spun around and exclaimed to the crowd, 'She actually talked to me!!! IEEE!!' Bai Hu's friend rolled his eyes but started to nod his head and his face started turning red. 'I want her to talk to me too...' 'What's with you, man?' retorted another, but slowly he started to look like a pink-faced zombie with a fetish, and soon they joined the crowds too. Bai Hu watched incredulously as the crowd got thicker and thicker. What on earth was happening? She wasn't anything like he had imagined. She was supposed to love him alone! Not draw in crowds for them to bask in her eternal beauty! It was only his! Not their's! He had had enough. He rolled up his sleeves and started ambling forward, forcing his way through the flustered folk, not taking care as he stomped on people's toes and slammed faces out of the way. When he had finally gotten to the front, he was completely nonplussed. There she was, Mirror, the supposed girl of his dreams, playing basket ball! He felt his heart stop when she threw a perfect three-score hoop and the ball automatically bounced back into her open palms. The whole crowd exploded in cheer, nearly bursting poor Bai Hu's eardrums. What made his heart stop again was her head turning and directing a cold gaze at him. Next thing he knew, she had pelted the ball into his quivering hands and proclaimed, 'I challenge you to a match. Think you can take me, kitty boy?' KITTEN BOY?! HIM?! BAI HU?! THE MIGHTY WHITE STREAKING TIGER?! FASTEST AND MOST POPULAR BOY IN THEIR YEAR?! NOT HIM!!! That had really hit him hard. That had really punctured his ego. His face turned red with fury and proceeded onto the court, ignoring that fact that everyone was watching them, and ignoring the fact that she was his dream girl and she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen...but that was all about to change! 'So, are you up for it?' she said with a sneer, winking over at the people behind him and making them all whoop with glee and blush. 'Gladly,' he snapped, narrowing his blood-red eyes. Chapter 4: The Match Bai Hu was amazed by Mirror's agility and how graceful her movements were as she swerved around him flawlessly, dodged his defensives agiley and scored a three-pointer just as she had given an example to her swoonign crowd of praisers. He found a weak point in her left joint and gave her a quick knock in her knee with his fist, making her stumble and so enabling him to swipe the ball off her, her hands giving way to the ball. He did a fancy twirl and jumped, making a heavy slam dunk. He did a handstand on the hoop and flipped back onto his feet, the ball bounced back into his hands as if drawn to them like a fly is to a night lamp. He turned and smirked at her, but it was too late. She squatted between his legs and shot the ball from his hands, making it fly into the air. She thrust herself away, looking much like a fox, very slick and cunning. Bai Hu lost himself in those sparkling amethyst eyes. With a flash in her violet eyes, Bai Hu heard the ball slam through the hoop. Another three-pointer. He had lost. For the first time in his high school years, he had lost to a girl. Mirror picked up the ball and shoved it into his open arms. He grasped it as if he were his heart trying to escape his chest. Kitty Boy's a rookie,' she said as if to taunt, chuckled darkly and walked casually before the crowd. She lifted one fist and the whole clump of freshmen roared in her triumph. Bai Hu turned around, his mouth and eyes wide with shock, gawping at her back like a zombie. How could this be? Chapter 5: More bad news Bai Hu suffered the unbearable torment of humiliation from all his classmates. He had been beaten in a game of Basket Ball by a girl. His "DREAM" girl. Four weeks went by, and the two loathed each other, despite how fetching the other looked. They tried competing in every sport facility available, matching each other's skills quite adequitly. Mirror would always sneer at him, and he would just glare, his blood red eyes burning with fury. Pretty soon Bai Hu was sitting alone one morning to find that all the girls were tieing their hair up in high ponytails. He asked one of them why, she sneered and said, 'Stupid kitty boy.' Just then, Mirror walked into the class with the rest of the class boys following after her, continually asking if they can hold her books or fan her face. 'Please, guys, give it a rest. We're already in class,' she said with a heavy sigh. She sat down and then the rest of the girls pushed all the guys away saying 'Leave her alone you boy!' and 'You're not worthy to walk in her footsteps!' Bai Hu's jaw dropped. All the girls were acting strangely lately. They were almost acting like Mirror. But how? Mirror flipped her ponytail over her shoulder and rested her chin in a hand. The girls all looked at her and automatically did the same thing. 'Oh my God...!' groaned Bai Hu, 'A whole class of Mirrors!' That was when all the guys started to loath herjust as much as Bai Hu did. 'She's gone too far! I haven't had date in three days!' complained one of his friends that had stopped drooling over the auburn beauty. 'So what if she's the most perfectly proportioned, sexiest body of femininity...' he shook his head wildly, 'She's a freaking pretty tomboy!'
