As a local artist I have exhibited my work in Western Massachusetts and Cape Cod since 1982 until present.   My educational background is a Bachelor of Fine Art in Painting and a degree in Art Education, as well as a minor in Art History.  In 1983 I received a full scholarship for four years at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, as well as the Binney and Smith Fine Arts Achievement Award in 1989.  I have studied under John Grillo, Leonal Gongora and Hanlyn Davies, and graduated Cum Laude in 1990.

My professional background consists of developing workshops and programs in the Arts.  In 1990 I was hired to develop and direct an Art program, which became El Arco Iris Youth and Community Arts Center, free to the community of Holyoke Massachusetts. I developed collaborations with the five neighboring colleges and area art entities such as Canal Galley, New World Theater, Children’s Holyoke Museum, Artista Latino artist group and many more.  El Arco Iris is a multi-disciplinary arts center incorporating empowerment through the arts and special workshops.  I left in 1994 and the center continues successfully in the Community.

The subject of my art has been mainly people with the focus on color and environment to create mood and intensity. When I have chosen to work strictly in Black and White it is through their contrast that I achieved this goal. The work is an ongoing resolution responding to experiences both beautiful and painful. The content is conceived from memory involving relations to people, places, and the impact they have had on me.

My work continues to evolve and change with a broad range in palette sometimes incorporating three-dimensional qualities through collage and other techniques.  The works generally range in size from 30” x 30” to 65” x 85”.  Presently I have begun to move into more abstract form, and in the future I may leave the two-dimensional surface completely to pursue three-dimensional form.

I am now living in Provincetown in housing developed for local artist.  In the past seven years I have been involved in several community based projects in the schools and libraries as well as being one of the initiators of The Rainbow Network, a project focused on creating culturally diverse activities on the Lower Cape.
