I have been in love with photography since I was a teenager. During the Vietnam War, as a student, I did not have enough time and money for photography, but I still tried to buy my first camera with all my saving. My first camera was a small automatic 35mm Olympus with 72 exposes instead of 36 exposes.
I first considered photography only as a hobby helping me relax from stress of a usual life. But gradually, I recognize that camera can bring to viewer the beautiful angles of very simple things happening in a natural way in daily life when they are composed in correct light arrangement and composition. Also, capturing a subject at a right moment, expressing its meaning to everyone are the challenging assignments, and these are my ambition.
I came to the United States (US) in Virginia 1981. My first ten years here were devoted to working and studying. I earned Master of Science and Applied Scientist degrees in Electrical Engineering at the George Washington University in Washington DC. My busy schedules did not prevent me from pursuing my love for photography. I managed to buy a Nikon F3 with my first paycheck from my first job in the US in 1983.
In 1990, came to the US my entire family including my oldest brother, who had worked as a photographer in Vietnam. To support his big family, my brother had to start his business in wedding photography and video. At first I just tried to help my brother with his business on weekends, but then I gradually became his partner as a wedding photographer. My equipment includes the Nikon F3 35mm, and Hasselblad medium format cameras. Besides, I have my own darkroom to enlarge custom pictures, and a studio.
Recently, I have found interest in digital photography for its huge conveniences in editing, presenting, and printing. Anyway, all photos in my portfolio here were scanned from original negatives and not digitally modified.
