Halloween is the kickoff for the holidays for us! We celebrate the coming of fall with a haunted yard complete with pulley ghosts, fog (lots of fog) and a cemetery of cement headstones!
We go to quite a bit of detail, and try to keep the theme gothic. No Freddy Kruegers, no Michael Meyers, no jumping ax maniacs. I try to use Edgar Allan Poe, or Vincent Price as my benchmarks.
We try to make the ghosts appear to move on their own, with no visible means of support. On Halloween night, we extend the haunt into the entry way, and always try to come up with a new twist for those brave enough to come trick or treating!
Check out the previous year's displays to see the pictures in historic context. The images displayed to the right are "hi-lights" from various years. 2006 and 2007 pictures allow you to click on the images for a bigger image... or a surprise! In 2008, we hope to have the display up and running by the 16th of October. We usually light things up at dusk. Visit us on Halloween. We usually have things moving around... mwahahaha!
For great inspirations and local Halloween attractions, check out "Haunted Illinois" on the internet. It is a great site for haunter wannabes and for families looking for local fun.
