Dedicated to the City I call my Home,  LAS VEGAS, NEVADA.
LAS VEGAS NEVADA, I love this town.  Probably one of the United States best known cities and one of the world's greatest playgrounds, Las Vegas is Unique.  Let me tell you a little about it.
Las Vegas is just a community of a million and a half people, that happens to get another million and a half visitors every month.  Called Sin City, our biggest industry is gaming (That's what we like to call Gambling!) The casinos put on fabulous shows to draw folks into the gaming areas and that means that we are also one of the leading entertainment centers of the world.  But besides that, Las Vegas is home to a lot of people who are not gamblers, entertainers or otherwise associated with the gaming industry.
Some Myths about Las Vegas
1. Prostitution is legal in Las Vegas.   FALSE,  Prostitution is legal in some counties in Nevada, but NOT in Clark county where Las Vegas is located.  You'll have to drive at least an hour away to find a legal Brothel.  Las Vegas does have prostitutes, but strictly illegal and a very high mumber of those arrested for Prostitution on the streets are HIV positive.  THAT MEANS AIDS FOLKS.  Don' take the chance.
2.  You can do things on the street here that would be illegal at home.  FALSE, or mostly so.  We have the usual strict laws on public indecency, and behaviour on the street can still get you busted.  Our party times, i.e. holidays, especially New Years are really something!
3.    You can win a lot of money here.   TRUE  but you can also loose a lot.  The fabulous casinos, great shows and other features here are paid for by the money people lose here, but they wouldn't keep playing if there wasn't a good chance to win.  While the casinos will end up keeping anywhere from 95 to 98 cents of every dollar you play, there will be winnings, and some people do get really lucky and win cars and jackpots worth millions.  There is help available for the problem gamblers.
4.    There is great opportunity for employment here.  WELL, YES and NO.  There is a lot of growth, and a lot of construction jobs and thus other new jobs, and there is a lot of employment in the service industries, BUT, have a job lined up before you move here.  The unions are strong and you may have to get on a waiting list for jobs.  The casinos all require Sheriffs cards, so if you have a criminal record, you will be severely limited in what work you can find.  Our winters are cold, and you do not want to be homeless here.
5. Las Vegas is run by the Mafia.   FALSE   It was once true that they had strong ties to the clubs but the gaming regulators in the state are so strict that organized crime would not have a chance here.  Las Vegas is however run by Big Business and the Unions!
6.  We pay no income tax in Nevada.  TRUE   We do appreciate all the tourists who bring money to leave with us and make that possible.
I love this town after having lived here only a little over 7 years.  It is a lot of glitz and glamour on the strip, but a great community of people to be associated with off the strip.  The only real difference is that the guy in the next barber chair may be a black jack dealer, magician, singer or a big move star.  I've stood in line at K-mart with the comic I saw on HBO the night before, and help change a tire for a guy in full Klingon costume on his way home from work at the Hilton.  I have lived in NY, CO, MS, AZ and spent time in lots of other places, but think I will try to stay right here!  Y'all come!
