Who Do You Say That I Am?

Web Assignment 2

I see Jesus first of all as a very divine, Godly figure. Often times relating with Jesus is hard because I imagine him as so far beyond anything I could ever be, and I forget about how his humanity goes with his divinity. Jesus performs many miracles and great deeds in the Gospels. Hearing about these miracles makes it much easier for me to see Jesus' divinity before his humanity. Most of all the Ressurection is what I feel sets Jesus apart from me. That, to me, highlights the peak of Jesus' divinity.

I picture Jesus as a Savior. When I think of Jesus' agony in the Garden, and his passion and death, I am saddened, but at the same time can not help thinking that he did all this for me. Jesus suffered and died to save me! He did this to save my friends, my family, my teachers, and even my enemies! What would my life be like without Jesus as a Savior? Would I have a life?

When I think of Jesus, his ministry, and his miracles, I think of healing. Jesus healed countless people: lepers, blind, paralytics, possessed, lame, and even the dead. I often pray to Jesus when I'm sick or hurt, and I know it gives me comfort and reassurance to know Jesus is with me. To see Jesus working these healings would have been a spectactular, inspiring thing to see. Seeing Jesus this way gives me comfort and makes me wonder how people in Jesus' times responded to seeing Jesus' healings.

Another image I have of Jesus is teaching. I see Jesus with countless numbers of people around him, crowding and waiting to get just a glimpse of Jesus and hear his words. Jesus taught them the correct way to live, pray, and act in in the world around them. When I picture Jesus giving the teachings himself then, I find it easier for me to follow his teachings through the Gospels now. Jesus taught in synagogues, on mountains, off of boats to crowds on the shores, and even just in common conversation with his disciples. Jesus is the best teacher I can ever ask for.

Jesus was triumphant over evil, and this maybe my favorite image of Him. He was tempted by the devil for things that I honestly don't know I could refuse, such as the entire world under my power. When I am faced with choices of good or evil in my life, Jesus is an inspiration to me to choose the right path. Jesus was tempted to take the easy way out, and avoid his death entirely, but he didn't. He followed God's plan for him. If I could do half of what God asked of me I'd be a much better person. Jesus is a prime example of fighting off evil and following God.

A personal favorite way of seeing Jesus is being with and accepting the children. I have the image of Jesus disciples telling the children to leave Jesus alone and Jesus telling the kids to come be with him. I imagine myself being one of the children and what that would be like. I don't really have an accurate explanation of why I like this image of Jesus, just that picturing him with ten kids pouncing all over him makes me smile! Knowing that Jesus tended to the adults and the children makes me feel more connected to him as a adolescent. 1
