A. What is the one key idea of this chapter?
We are called to be in a relationship with Jesus through the Gospels and other Scripture. The old and new covenants present what God promises for us, and what we must do to achieve his promises. The old covenant is not out-dated, but is brought together with a new covenant to form Jesus’ covenant of love through his death and resurrection. The Scriptures give us the word of God, and to fully be in a relationship with God we must know the Word well, ask what God’s message in the Word is, and see how it applies to us.
B. What are two major ideas I want to remember? Why?
First, I want to remember the information I learned about the Gospels, such as the stages of Gospel development and the information about the evangelists. As a human being, I often question the faith I follow and try to better understand it. I find that knowing about the Gospels and how they came to be helps me better understand why they are the way they are and take their teachings more deeply into my life.
Second, although a less significant portion of the chapter, I would like to remember what I read about Sister Thea Bowman. As I read her story in the text, I really got to thinking and felt a sort of inspiration welling up in me. Especially the quote, “... I’m content to do a little bit.” caught my attention. It seems to me that sometimes I feel as if I’m not doing enough for the world, or that my efforts to help maybe insignificant. Reading about Sister Thea made me realize that what I can do, along with the efforts of those around me can really make a difference. I would like to remember her story in my times of self-doubt.

D.One question about the chapter.
On a level dealing with more personal knowledge, but still dealing with the subject, during the councils to decide the Gospels, how was it determined which Gospels were appropriate and which were to be dismissed as falsehood?
E. What experiences in your freshman year brought you closer to Jesus? Explain.
One experience that brought me closer to Jesus was the Freshmen Retreat. I felt that through the small groups and probably the coolest mass I’ve ever attended ,I felt Jesus in my classmates and in all that was going on that weekend. It was a time I will never forget. Another big experience was the examine. I had never experienced anything quite like it before, but everyday I always looked forward to it. I even caught on to doing it myself sometimes when I am away from school. During all the chaos and stress of school it was a time for me to relax and just feel Jesus in my life.
