| Black hawk Down was written in 1999. Mark Bowden was a famous author and stated that his writing Black Hawk Down was highly influenced by John hersey's book titled Hiroshima. While in high school, the author read the book Hiroshima and it made a huge impression of him. It was a non-fiction book about the atomic bomb. mr. Bowden read the initial report of teh Black Hawk Down incident in newspaper and he said that the incident in Mogadishu would be great story and a truth that needed to be heard. The world seemed turned up side down during the time that he wrote the book. So many despicable things were happening throughout the world. the massacre at Columbine massacre made everyone in the country feel vulnerable. President Clinton survived an impeachment trial. Biden, a republican politician stated that "the public concluded that the president is an adultere and liar."That sent shock waves through the land. NATO went to war over human rights in Kosovo. The atrocities that occured in Kosovo brought back memories of Hitler's regime. Turmoil in Russia sparks war against Chechnya. The entire world sat in fear of the possible Y2K computer crash. These are only a few examples of the state of the country and world during this time. It's inderstandable why mark Bowden felt a need to tell the story about the brave soldiers fought in Mogadishu. |
