U.S. PATENT MODELS--5

Patented in 1873, this CHILDHOOD SWING designed by Wm. H. Alcorn had two horses with reins that could be held by children playing in the device.

The patent drawings help to explain the swing's mechanism.

George J. Swingle was a kindly soul who apparently couldn't kill a fly. Consequently, in 1868 he obtained a patent on this humane fly trap. It was baited with honey and the flies ended up in the wire cage. When the cage was filled with a sufficient number of insects, the trap could be taken outside and emptied. Consequently, the undamaged flies could once again roam free.
