Parashuraam |
Parashuraam was the grandson of Rishi Richeek and Satyavatee (daughter of Raajaa Gaadhi), and the son of Maharshi Jamadagni and Renukaa. Parashuraam is known for his anger, like Durvaasaa. He got angry with Raam when He broke Shiv's bow to marry Seetaa. Raam tried to pacify him, but he was adamant and demanded that He should demonstrate His power by breaking his own bow. When he was about to give his bow to Raam, he was surprised to see that it went to Him itself. Then he promised that he would not live on this land till Raam was there and went to Mahendra Parvat. Parashuraam Kills His Mother Jamadagni got very happy to see tyhe obedience of his son. He asked him to ask for a Var. He asked only this that "All should be alive as before and they should never know that I had killed him." Jamadagni got very happy to hear this. He made them alive again and they all stood up immediately as if they have got up from a long sleep. Parashuraam and Sahastrabaahu He went to Sahastrabaahu and killed him along with all his sons and his army. The legend goes that he filled five ponds with their blood in Samanpanchak area (present Kurukshetra). He emptied Prithvi from Kshatriya 21 times. Thus even being a Braahman, he was a Kshatriya, and his Naanaa (his paternal grandmother Satyavatee's brother Vishwaamitra) was a Brahmarshi even being a Kshatriya. Parashuraam and Dronaachaarya Parashuraam and Bheeshm Both Bheeshm and Karn were his disciples. When Bheeshm did not marry Ambaa, she went to Parashuraam too to ask his help. Parashuraam said - "He should marry you if he has done this to you. I will ask him to marry you." So he called Bheeshm and asked him to marry her or face him in a fight. As Bheeshm could not marry her, he had to face his Guru until his Guru did not accept his defeat. Parashuraam and Karn Karn wanted to learn archery. First his father Adhirath took him to Dronaachaarya, but he refused to teach him saying that he taught only to princes. Then he went to Parashuraam. Parashuraam saw a kind of glory o his face and made him his disciple. He was so happy with Karn that he did not ask for any Guru Dakshinaa from him. L ater, once Parashuraam was sleeping keeping his head in Karn's lap, that a terrible insect started biting in Karn's leg. It caused his leg to bleed but he did not move it. When the wetness touched Parashuraam, he woke up and saw that Karn's leg was bleeding. He asked him, "Why didn't you save yourself from this insect?" He innocently said - "You would have woke up." Parashuraam understood that Karn was not a Braahman. He got very angry at this that he got education from him by telling a lie. He cursed him - "You will not remember my education when you will need it most." Karn was very sorry at this but could not do anything and went away. Others Parashuraam Jee taught weaponry to Karn also. After he finished his education, he wanted to give him Guru Dakshinaa, but he refused to take it saying that since he was such a nice disciple, he would ask it whenever he would want it. But later he took his education back from him and cursed him that he would forget his education when he would it most.
