Madhu

Madhu was a Daitya. He used to live in a Van situated on the banks of Yamunaa River. Since he lived there, it became known as Madhu Van.

Once he did a severe Tap and pleased Mahaadev. Mahaadev got pleased with his Tapasyaa so he appeared before him and asked him to ask for a Var. He said - "If you are pleased with me then give me such weapon which can always protect me." Mahaadev gave him a scepter and said - "Take this. It will kill your enemy, as well as nobody will be able to defeat you until it is with you." And he disappeared.

Since then he had that scepter which protected him. When he died he gave that scepter to his son named Lavan. This Lavan was also very mighty. He was killed by Shatrughn - Raam's youngest brother and he then inhabited Mathuraa Nagaree at the same place.
