HISTORY OF OUR PIPE BAND
In 1990, is created the Cultural Association CANDÁS PIPE BAND, dedicated to the study, support and diffusion of the Asturian traditional culture. Our objective: to present the level and the musical patrimony of our country, Asturies.
La Banda Gaites Candás, is formed at the present time by more than 40 musicians (pipes and percussion), and 50 boys and girls learning in our School of Folk music. The repertoire of the BGC, is formed basically by Asturian subjects, although also are harmonized adaptations of prestigious Asturian composers, themes of percussion, and compositions of our musical Director, FERNANDO DOPICO (the old teacher was HEVIA), VELU MUÑIZ, Professor of the Pipe School of Candás and XUAN RODRIGUEZ, piper of LLAN DE CUBEL. Actually, our percussion teacher is MANUEL A. CORDERO.

La BANDA GAITES CANDAS, next to other four bands: B.G. Ribadesella, B.G. Mieres del Camín, B.G. Villaviciosa y B.G. San Martín del Rei Aurelio, form BANDONA D'ASTURIES, with almost a hundred of pipers directed by Hevia.
Every summer, takes place in Candás the "Festival de Bandes de Gaites" , (Pipe Band Festival) where thousands of people, can enjoy a representation of the best pipe bands of the world. During several days with its nights, people know the most beautiful places of the town of Candás and the world of pipes,tonada, folkloric factories of music, groups....and......a lot of cider, of course!!!!!!
