Rurouni Kenshin is the story of a wandering swordsman in the 1870s Meijii period in Japan.  The story revolves around a man once known as hitokiri Battousai, who was a famous killer at the end the Bakumatsu working to bring forth the new Era where the people of Japan can be safe.  But the Battousai mysteriously disappeared.  He changed his name to Kenshin and vowed never to kill again and to use his sword to help people when they needed it.           One day he runs into Kaoru, who accuses him of murdering people in the name of her dojo.  This is eventually straightened out and she goes off to find the real murderer.  Kenshin saves her and she accepts him into her dojo.  This is where the series begins.
