Turntables
Purchasing turntables pretty much depends on your budget. The Vestax turntable next to the title will set you back a whoping £450, but for a pro, this could be worth it, but for a beginer with not much cash a slightly downmarket turntable might be a better bet!
The Citronic PD-1(right) is a steal at £119 (now I sound like a salesman!). Shop around for the right turntable for you! Try
HARD TO FIND RECORDS my fave Vynil shop! Remember the absolute minimum requirements you will need will be +/- 6 pitch adjustment, 33/45rpm, and direct drive is prefered to belt.
Mixer
Again, the bigger your budget the better the product. But great mixers are available for as little as £50, and for just a little more, the brilliant Gemini PMX-100 (right). It has 2 channels - with killswitches, a crossfader, cue section and gain, bass, treble, balance and master contorls. Try HARD TO FIND RECORDS for other great deals on mixers and a free full-colour 68 page catalogue! The minimum requirements for a mixer are a X-fader, and headphone cue. But remember, the less you spend, the less you get!
Headphones
'Now, what is to know about headphones?' I hear you say! Picture this. Your in a club, you've started your set, and your ready to fade to the next tune. The record is on the turntable and your cueing it up, but then SHOCK! HORROR! As you click the cue across the background noise is drowning out the sound from your crap £10 headphones! You crank up the cue voulume, but still cannot hear it over your damn loud (but great) speakers! You end up slammin' on the next track, it plays out of rythm and the club emptys faster than soup thru a sive! Go for the best you can afford. There is another way around crappy headphones. Headphone amplifiers (far right), but theese can cost more than some decent headphones so go for decent headphones!
Amplifier
You may want to use an old amp from a hi-fi or a guitar. But the best are the Gemini range, that are well priced and great sounding! The cheapest of the lot is the Gemini P-600 (right) for just £220 you get fan-cooled 250 watts of power! (Wowsa!) Shop around, I personaly would rather use a hi-fi amp (because of the cost and... well the cost)! Normaly a high powered amp can spiral your budget outta control! So look for cheap deals @ SAPPHIRES, and HARD TO FIND RECORDS.
Speakers
The more powerfull the better. In a bedroom setup the Monitor 5's (right) from RCF are great. They were desinged for using as monitors in booths, but work just fine as bedroom speakers, and for £300 who are you to argue? Ok so mabey they are a bit flash 'n' expensive for a beginer, but there are a full range of great speakers listed at SAPPHIRES! So click on down there!
