The Boys, from the film Way Out West |

I have been in love with Oliver Hardy since before I was aware of sexual attraction. I felt drawn to him in many films even though he sometimes seemed to be cruel to Stan he always retained a gentle kindness. |

Me, as Oliver Hardy |

I have always admired the team of Laurel and Hardy. Thier films were shown regularly on TV when I was a child so I became as familiar with them as my parent's generation was. |

I didn't realize until I was in my teens just how much I was attracted to Mr. Hardy. I began to research his background and discovered that he was from the same little Georgia community as my mother's family. I began to collect photos and books. I began to feel a strong connection. So much so that when I visit my sister in Los Angeles I often find the time to leave some flowers beside the marker where his ashes are buried. I guess it's because I have adopted him as a replacement for my father, as someone to look to as a model of what an overwieght man can accomplish and become. |
