William finished two years of PPCD (preschool program for children with disabilities) in our school district last May. During a meeting with some of the school administration at his *new* school (our neighborhood school, at which he did not attend PPCD) I found out that they are piloting a program to let PPCD kids transition into kindergarten. We set that up over the summer (all that lovely special education paperwork!), and he started the year in August spending half of the day in PPCD, half in kindergarten. He has now been in school for about 4 weeks, and we will be meeting again soon to add some more kindergarten time to his special ed. schedule and add an auditory trainer as a service he will receive in the kindergarten setting. He received hearing aids last Decmeber (and a new qualification for special ed. - Auditorially Impaired), receives AI services and speech therapy at school, and will now have an FM system to wear in addition to his hearing aids to help him know what's going on. He has done really well so far, and it shouldn't be long before he is in kindergarten completely. |
