George W. Bush is a model of faith because he puts his beliefs and values into all his actions and carries through with his actions with a belief that they will bring about good.
Geogre W Bush's journey to faith begins in his mid life around the age of 40 beause of family issues. The issue with his family was that he did not want to lose his daughters but if he lost his wife he would lose them and he was going to lose his wife unless he quit drinking. The life changing experience in Bush's life came when he met Billy Grahamn and was introduced to faith. After arising the morning after his birthday party he found the strenght to save his marriage and quit drinking through god as shown when he is quoted to have thought "Eureka, that's it. I'll take God. I'll beat drinking. I keep Laura and the girls; that simple. I will never take a drink again the rest of my life. Done." The resulting faith inspired by his connection with God is evident in the policies and decisions made through out his political career. Some notable examples of George W.Bush's faith based decisions include the creation of the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives(OFBCI) on January 29 2001.The OFBCI was created to eliminate the barriers that kept the government from aiding or esatblishing relationships with priavte organizations ,such as the church, even when the priavte organizations and government were tackling the same social problems. The foundation of the OFBCI is an example of Bush's faith becuase "The Federal Government has long partnered with states and nonprofit organizations to deliver social services, yet no president had ever embraced the faith-based and community nonprofit sector as a central player in that effort meaning that this is the first time a president has openly raallied behind priavte religous sectors and has strived to be an active member in the shaping of the relationships between government and the religous sector.
The challenge to Bush's faith came on september 11th 2001 when terrorist attacks were made against the United States government. The attacks resulted in Bush having to abandon his quest of isolation of the U.S from foreign entanglenents and the adoption of a very direct and long lasting entanglement in the form of war. The posed a challenge to Bush's faith becuase Bush belived that "he believes that faith can save society" meaninf that in order for him to have faith in the war Bush had to have faith that the war would improve the existing societies of all involved. The resulting war shows that Bush had faith in the war and even today when most of the population is against him it is a true testament to his faith that he still believes in the war effort.
The faith that Bush puts into the war effort can be justified by the positive results that have occured becuase of the war. Some of the things that give Bush faith in his war are the "1500 rebuilt schools, 240 rebuilt hospitals, 1200 clinics, vaccinations for 22 million kids, a stronger Iraqi economy"that have helped establish order and prosperity in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The war is a testament to Bush's faith because even though popular support has vanished Bush still firmly belives in the cause and will not give up on it.
According to Newsweek magazine, "this presidency is the most resolutely faith-based in modern times - an enterprise founded, supported and guided by trust in the temporal and spiritual power of God."
