August 29th - Day 5 - Grand Forks to Cranbrook
Stopped in Cranbrook to avoid any
chance of getting stuck on the highway at night, altho I
hear the roads are open now. It's 5 pm anyway, and hot,
and time to stop. The campgrounds are all baking in the
sun or closed because of the fires, so Jessie and I stop
at a Motel 8 which welcomes dogs and gives a senior's
discount! The motel room has a tv and after a tv-less
week, I don't have any desire to turn it on! The terrain changed back from Osoyoos' desert climate to the BC I'm so familiar with....lots of trees and mountains! I don't have any idea how the firefighters manage in this rugged and steep place. I keep praying their safety. |
on the road to Cranbrook - smoke from fires visible in distance.
I'm still undecided on which road to
take tomorrow. There is a fire around Radium today and
the highway is closed periodically. Like life, it's a
step - or a km - at a time! Testing, judging, deciding
which path to take. Then committing to that path with
faith and trust in the outcome. Driving along today, I thought a lot about our "road" in life. In some areas, there is no shoulder and no guardrail, with a sharp drop to reward a mistake in judgment! If I look around too much and don't pay attention to the road, I can wind up a casuality there ....upside down and not going anywhere. Other areas are "under construction" or repair. Some places are four lanes with the leisure for me to take my time and know others going faster can pass me; I can step out of the "race". And there are lots of "pull-outs" - time to stretch and reflect and rest. |
