Hello Brunskillers,
Sorry I can?t join you this summer to catch up on the last 40 ?odd years. My life
thus far has been pretty satisfactory and interesting to me at least. After heading off to
Nutana, I spent two years at the U of S and then went to UBC Law School (I had decided to
spend the rest of my life in Vancouver which I loved-so much for planning. Life has a way
of intervening with one?s plans).
After 4 years of practice there, I decided professional life was consuming me at bit too
much, and I spent a year in London, England doing grad work. While there I met the i
nevitable Englishman, but he hated rain and would not move to BC. I lived and worked in
England for several years before returning to Canada in 1975. I became a Torontonian, a
mother and an academic, teaching Trade Law in Ryerson University?s Business Faculty.
After 25 years here, I am pretty rooted in the ?East?, with a job I like, two wonderful
children, many friends, and membership in a golf club and a year round club to keep me busy.
My life as an academic has given me great flexibility to be with my children as they grew up
as well as providing me with opportunities for personal growth and independence. Over the
years I have taught in China, and spent time in Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore
and Europe on university and research related trips. I am presently Coordinator for
International Business for our Faculty and responsible for developing Ryerson?s first MBA,
one which will emphasize Business in the Global Environment.
This is an eventful year for our little family (just the three of us) : two graduations,
daughter Catherine from Osgoode Hall Law, and son Alex, from McMaster Commerce, my 60th
birthday ? big party, and Catherine?s wedding September 6th.
Wishing you all a happy reunion, and hoping to join you in 2005,
Mary Jo (Anderson) Nicholson
