The Bruce County Astronomical Society is a non-profit organization. It was founded in 1991, and located in Southern Ontario, Canada, along the eastern shore of Lake Huron. Since then our membership has grown and we fluxuate around 40-50 members. The late Mr. Herbert Coleman, a local doctor, donated his 8" Meade telescope to the local school board which paved the way for the club's formation and location ~ sharing equipment and the responsibility to teach others about astronomy.
Welcome
Welcome to the Bruce County Astronomical
Society (BCAS) Website.
Amateur astronomy is a rapidly growing
activity that appeals in many ways to all ages. Of central importance is the
appreciation of the beauty and meaning of the night sky through observation and
understanding of diverse natural phenomena. Amateurs enjoy observing everything
from the weather, aurora, the solar system and deep space objects to earth
orbiting satellites and meteors. Many of us also enjoy building, testing and
modifying the sometimes complex equipment used to make these observations. Over
time, I believe you will find here information related to most, if not all,
aspects of amateur astronomy.
We hope you will find our website to be a
dynamic and useful place to visit. The BCAS is a small society dedicated to the
enjoyment of the night sky and to astronomical education of the public,
especially the young. Among our members, we have some noted science educators
and many years of collective amateur astronomy experience. We hope that through
this site we can make some of this knowledge available to all who might be
interested. Should you have a question or comment about this site, our club,
the night sky or the equipment that amateurs use, please do not hesitate to
write to us. Better yet, why not come out to one of our monthly meetings or
observing sessions.
You will be most welcome.
